Newly signed to independent hip-hop giant Strange Music (famous home of Tech N9ne), LA legend Murs is setting the stage for the release of his upcoming debut on his new label with the powerful “No More Control.”An ode to the ongoing social uproar regarding police brutality and the violence ensuing the black community in America, the video for “No More Control” displays a keen perspective on what Murs finds troubling in today’s society.
“It is very rare that someone from the hip-hop community and the black community would stand up and say, ‘I think the majority of the opportunity for change is still in our control.’ They want us to be victims, to think ‘march and protest’ because that’s the victim role,” he told Complex – the video prominently highlights the #BlackLivesMatter movement. “Yes, the police are out of control, but what can we control? We can control the culture of violence in our community. Instead of looking at what we can control, we’re looking at the justice system to convict these one, two, three or one hundred police officers. Bringing these killers to justice is only part of the solution.” With Fool’s Gold’s MNDR on the hook, Murs uses his star power to shine light on issues afflicting us today with his new single. Look forward to his Strange Music debut Have A Nice Life on May 19th.
