Ed. Note: As we announced a few weeks ago, resident sneaker guru Jon Hundreds is back in effect with his sneaker column for The Hundreds. He’ll be taking a look at new releases that are hyped and slept on, and giving his completely honest and unfiltered viewpoint on each release. This week’s edition is all about the re-release of the Nike Air Jordan 1 “Black Toe”—the first in many releases that are dropping this November. The shoes will retail at $160, and will be available this Saturday, November 5.
I think it’s good that Nike is releasing Air Jordan 1 colorways that coincide with the XXXI (the Nike Air Jordan XXXI “Chicago” is releasing alongside these this weekend as well)—but the Black Toes aren’t that much different from the 2013 release. The leather is a little bit better—but It’s just weird that they keep bringing them back so close the last retro. I don’t get the hype for these, I feel like it’s actually less than the last time they released. In 2013, the Black Toes didn’t sell that well. They were easy to get. I think like the hype is higher for the Jordan 1 now, for whatever reason, and that’s the only reason that it’ll sell. People are buying it because of the hype. You should still get these shoes, because they will probably be the easiest of the November releases (which include another pair of Jordan 1s, a retro of a Air Jordan 3 and a Yeezy 350 colorway) to get.
