Originally established in 1984 as a surfboard manufacturing company, today Blue Hawaii Surf has evolved into a curator of select surf, skate, and streetwear brands. Blue Hawaii Surf’s own house brand is inspired local Hawaii lifestyle with a modern update. With roots running deep in the skateboarding culture, Blue Hawaii Surf also has their Eighty Four Skate house brand which is designed and put to the test by their skate team. They are currently sharing their story and take on Hawaii through their shops on Oahu, as well as recently opened shops in Beijing and Guangzhou China.
Seeing as Blue Hawaii Surf consistently places priority on people over product, we saw them as a perfect match for The Hundreds, leading us to The Hundreds X Blue Hawaii Surf “Sandys” T-shirt, available at all Blue Hawaii locations on our nation’s holiday, July 4.
The collaborative shirt, illustrated by Josh Clements, depicts Hawaii’s Sandy Beach Park, one of the most popular beaches in the state, known lovingly to the locals as “Sandys.” The Hundreds’ Bsilvs came up with the concept:
“The Hundreds has always been about the people, and I wanted to create something that was for the local people of Hawaii.” Although Sandys is a local favorite, it’s also one of the most dangerous beaches in the area, holding the highest record of neck and back injuries. “If you don’t know the water, or you’re not a strong swimmer, I highly suggest you stay on the sand and watch,” says Bsilvs. “Any time we jump in the water, we are putting our lives at risk. But all we’re trying to do is have fun and catch the nicest or biggest wave. And when Sandy’s is big, it’s gnarly.”
The tee depicts a typical day at Sandys. Locals bodyboarding, body surfing, surfing, barbecuing, and enjoying all that Sandy’s has to offer. And with our collaborative shirt with Blue Hawaii Surf, we want to take you there.”
