DRIVE-THRU THEATER :: Catch Up with Anwar Carrots

DRIVE-THRU THEATER :: Catch Up with Anwar Carrots

When Anwar unveiled a bootleg Future collab paying tribute to the legendary Atlanta rapper a couple of months ago, it made complete sense. And one had to pause for a second to wonder if it was actually a real collaboration between the two. It just fit kind of perfectly, both infinitely talented, with their work spanning across multiple generations in their respective fields. Both came up learning from the OGs and paying their dues before venturing out onto their own and creating a name for themselves. Then, they became the OGs, influencing an entire generation after them.

Anwar still looks like the kid running around Fairfax with his friends, but now he has kids of his own and his brand Carrots has grown up a lot, too.

In just the last year, Carrots has exploded in popularity, garnering throngs of new fans with some of the biggest collabs of the year. Anwar put out the most sought-after Crocs, ever. Anwar landed what would seemingly be the ultimate collab for a brand called Carrots, getting to work with Bugs Bunny. Then, he casually dropped a LEGO collab like it was nothing. And that’s just a tiny piece of what he’s done lately. Projects with Circulate, The Smokers Club, and Crenshaw Skate Club were really important for the culture, not to mention must-cops.

After making a splash at the first Family Style Food Festival, it was only right to have Anwar bring Carrots back for Drive-Thru Theater. The event is sold out, but you can squeeze yourself into your friend’s car that bought a ticket like they should have. We caught up with Anwar to find out what he’s been up to and what kind of snacks he sneaks into the movies.

How does it feel to be participating in an in-person event again?
Feels like I won’t have a heart to heart with Lamar Odom and my mans that does the screen printing this time around my guy was blacked out and he was like this ya mans lmao. Other than that feels good to be in good company.

Have you ever collaborated with a restaurant before? Why did you pick the restaurant you chose to work with? How do you approach this differently than a typical clothing collab?
Before Carrots, we did a collaboration with Free Range Chicken with Jesse who is now the Food Director over at Brain Dead Fairfax. My mans Roofeeo chose me and I can’t turn down like-minded brethren. That’s how I usually go about my collaborations… homies or shoot for the stars opportunity granted towards Carrots.

What have been some of your go-to takeout spots throughout the pandemic?
Mariscos Corona in Van Nuys… Fried Fish Pulpo Ceviche and Agua Chile I love!

How have you and your brand navigated everything the past year or so? What were some of the biggest challenges you faced and what were some of the biggest lessons you learned?
We maneuvered through the situation like the matrix. Biggest challenges have been cash flow but for good problems. Biggest lesson was patience which is the only lesson.

Have you ever been to a drive-in theater? What are your go-to snacks when you go to the movies?
Love Drive-ins! Go to is obviously popcorn and Raisinets lol.

If your brand was a food dish, what would it be?
Raw Carrots vegan or non-vegan ranch totally up to you lol.

What can we expect this year from your brand? What comes next for you after Drive-Thru Theater?
I don’t even know what to expect from my brand nowadays. Shit just keeps popping up and I keep saying yes! Grateful for more opportunities. After Drive-Thru Theater, I think I’m putting out some weed. Lol
