We have a lot of new faces participating in Family Style Drive-Thru Theater this time around, but Bricks & Wood founder Kacey Lynch is a seasoned vet at this point. One of the only 3-time participators except for, like, The Hundreds. And for good reason. We love Kacey over at TH, he’s family. Read all about it in this profile we did on Kacey and his brand a little while back on The Blog.
Some of the best collabs we’ve seen at Family Style events have come from the brains at Bricks & Wood, and as fans of the brand, we can’t wait to see what Kacey has up his sleeves next. For Drive-Thru Theater 2: The Sequel, Bricks & Wood is following up their Amboy collab from last Fall with not one but two collaborations this time around.

Bricks & Wood is working with the legends from The Serving Spoon, an Inglewood institution, and our charity partners at Dreamhaus. Both collaborations will be available exclusively at Drive-Thru Theater, which is sold out, so make sure you sneak into one of your friends’ cars or at least have them proxy some pieces for you.

We caught up with Kacey for a few to see how he’s been and what he has in store for us at Drive-Thru.

How does it feel to be participating in an in-person event again?
Always feels good to participate in Family Style. From the first event to this one, it’s been literally a family affair since the jump. Very excited to be able to have our name on each Family Style Fest event thus far.
Have you ever collaborated with a restaurant before? Why did you pick the restaurant you chose to work with? How do you approach this differently than a typical clothing collab?
Yes we have, this will be our third culinary collaboration with plenty of others in the pipeline. This one came a bit different because we actually didn’t have a prior relationship with The Serving Spoon. I have eaten there plenty of times as a kid growing up but this time by the grace of Miles and the Family Style Festival event space, this collaboration came together through the event.
What have been some of your go-to takeout spots throughout the pandemic?
Some of my go-to takeout spots have been Dune in DTLA, Natraliart, Happy Taco, Burgers99, Amboy, not exactly to-go but Dama has been heavy in rotation for outdoor dining lately, Honey Bees, & Vee’s Cafe, Taco Mell. Plenty of others but too many to name, to be honest. I’ve always been pretty adamant about supporting local small restaurants but since the pandemic, I’ve made it a point to spend my money as locally as possible.
How have you and your brand navigated everything the past year or so? What were some of the biggest challenges you faced and what were some of the biggest lessons you learned?
We’ve been navigating fairly well honestly. We just had to refocus our design process. The biggest challenge was previously we would create for the future but now it’s been more so us creating for now. Trying to add to people’s livelihoods in the moment that we are all sharing. Something about it is a refresh I think we all needed.
Have you ever been to a drive-in theater? What are your go-to snacks when you go to the movies?
Yes I have, even before the last Family Style event. My go-to snacks are buncha crunch & Sweet Tart ropes.
If your brand was a food dish, what would it be?
I think we would be the local inexpensive hood pizza spot.
What can we expect this year from your brand? What comes next for you after Drive-Thru Theater?
We’re dropping a shoe with New Balance. That’s all you need to know :)
