TO WIT.

TO WIT.

I came to know of Raymond Pettibon‘s art before I even knew of a Raymond Pettibon.  Having designed the Black Flag logo and then going on to do so much of the band’s flyer art, he influenced and inspired and led the way for a generation of visionaries and musicians and leaders.  Today, Pettibon’s art is widely celebrated on a fine-art scale.  His current solo exhibition, “To Wit,” is up at the David Zwirner Gallery, and may very well be my favorite show of 2013.  The prose, the colors, and the sheer diversity and range of Pettibon’s work is what brings me in.  The complexity of his thoughts, the intricacies of the artist’s mind, are what captivate.  But again, back to the diversity.  How can there be so much fluidity and consistency across such a span of storytelling?

“To Wit” is up for another month or so here in New York City.  Go.
