Ben and I grabbed a quick breakfast meeting over at Nickel Diner here in downtown Los Angeles.
I love eating here. It feels like you’re in a Zooey Deschanel movie. Or a diner out of Clowes’Ghost World. The food’s pretty good and the clientele is a nice change of pace from looking at hairy dirty men in the office all day.
There is bacon. On the glazed donut. Brilliant.
This girl was sitting next to us and had a sweet tattoo setup goin’ on. Shel Silverstein homage on the right arm, with The Giving Tree and The Missing Piece illustrations. The other arm was occupied with Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are monsters. She was also a good sport about taking the photo. “Thanks for asking, most people just take it without.”
Downtown Los Angeles is a lot more interesting if you just look up. Ben was saying that this is our version of ancient ruins you’d find in Greece or historic architecture in Europe. There are so many stories (literally/figuratively) in the aged brick and faded, cracked painted advertisements.
