The Hundreds Fall 2024 Collection released last week, presenting a new line inspired by the diverse landscape of LA and LA street culture. The collection reintroduces traditional California-inspired workwear, classic flannel patterns, and sleek sportswear – all slightly altered for a contemporary look. At conception, the design team gathered the classic silhouettes and approached the collection with innovative alterations to mimic LA streetwear with an elevated lens.
For example, one of the ideas was to create an iteration of commonly spotted (no pun intended) paint splattered clothing using puff print in efforts to add a new texture to the design. Creative Director David Rivera, however, had different plans with aims to elevate the concept through embroidery, which has not been widely explored within company history. During the design process of trial and error, a team member recalled seeing something similar online. It was coming from NYC-based artist Pat Peltier, better known as Bandulu.
Peltier’s signature style originated from frustration. He found frustration in his favorite clothing that would end up damaged overtime or thrifted grails that without a fail would come with a gnarly stain that was impossible to remove. The recurring headache prompted Peltier to learn embroidery in efforts to devise a method for reparation and sustainability.
This initial idea evolved into a concept of concealing stains with embroidery, leading to further experimentation with techniques and eventually, reinventing clothes that had seen better days. His frustration with imperfections turned into a signature style, where each stitch brought new life to stained or damaged garments, eventually developing his distinctive hand-embroidered paint splatter technique.
Inspired by Bandulu’s approach to sustainable art, Rivera reached out to collaborate, bringing a unique fusion to this season’s lineup. The capsule collection transforms the classic painter’s outfit into an embroidered cotton sweat set, embodying a fusion of streetwear and art. We’re excited to present The Hundreds by Bandulu, a special capsule within our Fall 2024 Collection. We worked together with the NYC-based artist on a custom pullover with matching sweatshorts and a bucket hat — all available now on TheHundreds.com and The Hundreds Los Angeles flagship at 501 N. Fairfax Ave.
