Just when we thought we had our fill of epic trailer reveals, 2014 and Ice Cube decided to give us one more reason look foward to this coming year – the premiere of N.W.A.’s biopic Straight Outta Compton trailer. F. Gary Gray (Friday, The Italian Job) directs this brand new feature film chronicling the rise of one of the West Coast’s most legendary and prolific rap groups, N.W.A. During a concert in Sydney, Australia, Ice Cube surprised fans with Universal Pictures’ first public trailer of the film – which, of course, was immediately recorded and uploaded on YouTube. The extremely energetic clip gives us a taste of how newcomers Jason Mitchell (Eazy-E) and Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre) will handle embodying some of rap’s most celebrated pioneers. Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr. will be playing his own father – a wise move from Universal since the newcomers have no stigma, be it good or bad, attached to them, O’Shea’s presence will act as a stamp of approval and legitimacy directly from Dre and Ice Cube. The movie comes with a release date of August 15th, which couldn’t seem further away from right now. Check out the trailer below.
