The Salt of The Earth – My favorite photographer bio film ever, on the great Sebastião Salgado. So underrated and his work around the world is so breathtaking. The film is also fantastically shot and is Oscar-nominated. I first saw it in a photo class in college and come back to it when I need to remember the power of a photo and of the world.
Fleabag – Super funny and a great reminder to just be your weird self
The Crown – Super excited for Season 4 to drop this month and see the Princess Diana drama unfold.
Justin, marketing:
QT8 – Tarantino Documentary on Amazon Prime, great insight into the man behind some of the greatest movies ever made.
Sex In The City Seasons 1-6 on HBO – Tons of great knowledge about gender equality and communication with women. Plus I love Carrie Bradshaw.
House of Lies – Don Cheadle being Don Cheadle, but really being like Ari Gold.
Pee Herman Show on Netflix – Really amazing set design and art direction stands out as an adult viewer.
Duke, content:
HBO has been killing it all year, from Watchmen to The Outsider and A Plot Against America, etc. They have a few new shows that are shaping up to be just as good. We’re three episodes deep on The Undoing (Nicolle Kidman and Hugh Grant) and it’s fucking insane. Great psychological thriller/mystery. It will have you counting down the days until the next episode airs so you can figure out more pieces of the puzzle.
There’s also a new show on HBO Max called Two Weeks To Live with our old friend Arya Stark playing a teenager who has been sheltered with her mom in a doomsday bunker her whole life. She has a lot to learn about the real world once she finally escapes, but she’s trained to kill like a super-assassin so she’ll probably be ok. I’m only one episode deep so far but it’s very interesting and pretty funny. Will keep watching.
Listen, I know seasons 2 and 3 of The Office get all the praise and acclaim, but a recent rewatch of season 5 revealed something remarkable. It’s quite good. Maybe even great. Weight loss saga, the CPR scene, Crime Aid, Stanley’s heart attack, and the scene that still gets me every time, the Bill Buttlicker roleplay.
Also, Chappelle’s Show is on Netflix now and there were so many amazing sketches I had forgotten about when I started rewatching. The pilot episode is absolutely insane and it’s amazing that he came out the gates like that. Really set the tone for the entire series.
Heavy, special projects:
See Know Evil Documentary – The story of Davide Sorrenti, a young fashion photographer, who passed away at 21 due to kidney conditions and heroin use.
Queen’s Gambit – A show that takes place in the ’60s, following a genius chess player who was an orphan and became the top player in the world and competed against the Soviets.
Sandy, digital:
Blood of Zeus – Netflix anime centered around Greek Mythology. It looks like a Christian cartoon but I promise you it’s very good. They also show sketches and character proto ideas after every episode which is dope to see the many ideas for the show.
The Boondocks – I’m rewatching The Boondocks because it’s SO GOOD. What a gem of a show, there’s not one better. RIP Granddad.
The Final Table – I couldn’t be a judge at this show because every dish looks so pretty and professional. Everyone in this show wins in my opinion. They win the Sandy Satisfaction award. (-:
Awad, customer service:
The Mandalorian Season 2 – A whole lot of unanswered questions that keep piling up and building suspense!
The Good Doctor – Season 4 has started with the beginning of the COVID 19 outbreak.
The Great British Baking Show Series 11 – The best baking show on TV, with 2020 edition featuring the contestants facing off in a bubble like the NBA.
