Joshua Vides is no stranger to the collab. He’s worked on countless projects with collaborative partners, bringing his unique vision and creativity to new audiences and fans of a wide range of brands. From the CLSC days, where they made these butterscotch Umbros and Newport-inspired Stance Socks, to his latest venture, the DTLA coffee shop he opened with serial restauranteur Andy Nguyen called Matte Black, Vides has done it all. But in between those eras, Vides took his art back to the drawing board.

The artist and streetwear vet’s Reality to Idea concept found him reimagining everyday objects as sketches, using black lines to bring our focus back to the basics. Streetwear and art fans alike loved the work, and so did lots of other brands. Pretty soon, Vides was getting approached left and right to reinvent all sorts of products as ideas on paper.
There is something comforting about the simplicity of Reality to Idea, yet also complex, as your brain tries to wrap itself around the fact that you are not living inside a comic book.

Ahead of our very own collaboration with the artist, releasing this week, here are some of our favorite Joshua Vides projects:
