Jalen Santoy is music to our ears. The South Charlotte native has cultivated his region’s unique sound—he describes it as ”jazz, very spiritual, soulful type of music”—and developed his own unique take on it, which is why we’re excited to premiere “Off the Glass,” from his upcoming Charlie Eastern EP.
It all began with the release of his track “Foreplay,” an exploration of love and uncertainty that pairs well with swelling alto saxes (it’s a must-listen). The music video premiered on The FADER two weeks ago (it’s already reached over 5 million streams on Spotify). “It’s been a process. I released the track a little over a year ago, but the response has been really good,” Jalen told us over the phone (fun fact: before music, Jalen’s life almost completely revolved around soccer).
The approach for “Off the Glass” is different; the track hits harder than “Foreplay” while focusing more on playful bars and metaphors. Jalen claims that, all in all, he was having fun with the track. Listen to “Off The Glass” below and be sure to bump Charlie Eastern when it releases on November 18th (pre-order it here).
