Music is constantly evolving with new waves of artists filling the shoes of their predecessors, be it in New York, Atlanta, Miami, and even North Carolina. The connection between Miami and N.C. is not one you might automatically make when thinking about collaborative sounds. When you think Miami – depending on which generation of hip-hop you grew up on – you think of Uncle Luke, Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, and now Denzel Curry, Robb Bank, Yung Simme, and more. We can credit the rise of these new artists and the mashing of cultures and sounds around the south to the Internet fueling collaborations and eliminating borders.
Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, J.K. The Reaper has managed to grab the attention of one of Miami’s youngest and most popular new artists, Denzel Curry, joining his C9 collective. His latest offering is a visual for his song “Underseas.” The dark instrumental and complimentary lyrics are similar to those that made Denzel and fellow Miami artists made popular in the past few years. After coming off The “Bow Down Tour” with the likes of Deniro Ferrar last year, J.K’s been hard at work on his debut LP “Digital Tears.” In the meantime, he is prepping “Almost Angelic EP:2” to hold fans over as they wait on the album. Watch his video for “Underseas” below and stay tuned for details on his upcoming stops through California.
