GRAPHIC DESIGN IS MY PASSION :: L(ABS) is Opening This Saturday

As we celebrate Adam Bomb Squad’s first anniversary, it’s crazy to look back on just how much has happened in the last year. It’s been a whirlwind trip around the sun for Adam, Madam, Badam, and the rest of our incredible team. And it’s all thanks to you, our community. Nearly 9,000 of you believe in ABS  – and believe in each other – by teaching your friends about NFTs and introducing them to The Hundreds. And by playing an active role in the community, by meeting up at events, tuning in to Bomb Talk, or participating on Discord.

This project has grown beyond our wildest dreams. But it’s also a tremendous amount of work. The Hundreds is a relatively small team, so we’re all like super busy. Bobby is jetsetting across the globe pushing the culture forward, Ben is hosting a whole TV show, and Sandy is somehow juggling being the captain of a top tier NFT project with being the manager for her famous YouTuber kitties (who are open to hearing any and all brand deal offers). I don’t know if you heard, but we’re even holding an open house Job Fair at The Hundreds HQ on Monday.

So, we could use some help putting out some fire The Hundreds T-Shirts. That’s why we have the Adam Bomb Squad! The vast majority of you hold ABS NFTs that feature Bomb and Background combos that have never seen the light of day together IRL. Never been printed, never been sold, never been worn. Until now.

This Saturday, we are introducing Adam Bomb Squad Laboratories – or L(ABS). L(ABS) is another step in the progression of coalescing both Web2 and Web3, physical and digital fashion, The Hundreds and NFTs. We are beginning by allowing some holders to print custom T-Shirts featuring their Adam Bomb Squad NFT. If you go back and read Bobby’s whitepaper, “The Street Does Not Really Exist,” his main objective was to enable the customer to share in the upside of a brand’s notoriety and success. While ABS has been issuing royalties in the form of store credit to holders, there was also this floating idea of allowing our Community to print The Hundreds product with their NFT on it. This was a much more difficult puzzle to solve.

After crunching the numbers, pressing the buttons, and getting Ben to sign a big ass check for staffing and state-of-the-art machinery, L(ABS) is finally real… and launching this week!

For every L(ABS) drop, we’ll highlight four different Bomb characters from the collection. Holders of those four specific Bombs, no matter the background, will be able to connect their wallet to The Hundreds Online Shop and pick out a custom T-Shirt featuring their unique NFT. And if one of your Bombs isn’t featured in this pack, fear not. We’re going to be rolling out four more very soon, and then four more, and four more, and f… you get the idea. For legal and contractual reasons, not every bomb in the Adam Bomb Squad collection may get a physical merchandise opportunity. As with everything we’re building for the long game, these conversations will take time. While we carry out those negotiations, we begin with the first class from L(ABS):

First up are Scribble Adam, Nameplate Adam, Offset Adam, and Screen Adam. Holders of these four characters will be able to get through the tokengate on The Hundreds Online Shop and access their NFT in L(ABS). Then, they’ll pick which color T-Shirt they want and check out normally.

Scribble Adam

Sometimes, our stockists request exclusive The Hundreds product that a nearby competitor doesn’t have access to. Once in a blue moon, we will offer Special Make-Ups (SMUs) for friends of ours or accounts who have gone above and beyond for us. Triple Scribble Adam is a concept that was pitched to one of our accounts as an SMU, but never ended up going to production.

Nameplate Adam

Nameplate Adam is extracted from a larger graphic used for headwear and T-shirts that was modeled after a customized nameplate, an iconic artifact of California car culture.

Offset Adam

The Hundreds’ storytelling is centered around nostalgia and historical references. The designs can also be a commentary on how things were and where things ended up. One example is the contrast between the off-set printing of yesteryear and the digital printing of today. We just think it’s funny that we digitally designed this graphic to emulate offset printing.

Screen Adam

Much of streetwear’s origins boil down to the graphic T-shirt. The most notable aspect of the art is its roots in parody and commentary. There’s a David vs. Goliath attitude that comes with stealing a familiar logo, especially one that’s corporate, and tweaking it to serve a new message. Even The Hundreds’ “”Bar”” is a take on a football team’s typography. Although Andy Warhol wasn’t a parody artist per se, his Soup Cans are iconic for interpreting a commercial, manufactured product as painted canvases. In fact, like NFT collectibles, Warhol delivered 32 Soup Cans (one for every flavor) to the dealer Irving Blum in 1962. Not coincidentally, there are 32 Screen Adams, but we only curated a select few for the ABS collectibles.

Please allow some extra production and shipping time, as each of these T-Shirts is 1-of-1 and thus we can’t just print a bunch at once like with our normal graphics. It won’t take longer than 5-6 weeks to arrive, but even if it’s like 6.2 weeks or something, you’re getting a shirt from The Hundreds (our garments, branding, quality, production, and experience) that no other human on Earth will have. So, it’s worth the wait. We’ll also be accepting orders 100 at a time. Don’t worry if you don’t make the first 100 orders, we’ll open it back up once we’re ready to take more.

Remember, this is just the start and there’s gonna be a lot of tinkering and adjusting as we build this project together. Tech is all about making the radical attempts now to ensure a longer, sturdier future for all. Bombs away!
