BEHIND THE DESIGN :: The Hundreds Winter 2020

BEHIND THE DESIGN :: The Hundreds Winter 2020

Tonight, we unveil The Hundreds Winter 2020 collection, and our entire team can’t wait. Not just so we can finally start dressing but so you can, too!

More layers equal more ways to customize and make your fit unique, so we keep that in mind when designing our Fall and Winter collections.

The Hundreds Winter 2020 collection is built around utilitarian workwear, refining the garments into our own original take on the category. The colors in the collection are inspired by two distinct moments in every West Coast Winter: those mornings where a gloomy fog greets you when you open the door and the brilliant sunsets that make you long for the warm embrace of Summer.

From matching heavyweight Sherpa sets of pullovers and pants to buffalo plaid crewneck fleeces, you may not ever shiver once this Winter. We made jackets out of tough quilted duck canvas and transformed traditional rugby polos into heavier-duty hooded pullovers, all with your core temperature and style in mind. We even made a very special piece for our fellow underdogs, a hockey jersey that pays tribute to possibly the greatest Winter moment in sports history.

We went behind the scenes with Head Apparel Designer Erica Puebla and Senior Graphic Designer David Hernandez to gain some insight into the creative process for Winter 2020 and what inspired their favorite pieces. Check out their picks below and cop your favorites from The Hundreds Winter 2020 collection tonight at 9 PM PST and Midnight EST.

Erica, Head Apparel Designer:

Miracle Hockey Jersey
This piece was inspired by the 1980 US Men’s Hockey team’s stunning upset of the Soviet Union in the Winter Olympics, known as “The Miracle on Ice.” The US team was heavy underdogs, going against the 4-time defending gold medalist Russian team and pulled off the unlikely win, going down in history as one of the greatest Olympic wins ever. The Hundreds has been an underdog since day one, so that team’s story is one we can relate to. The jersey has an oversized fit with USA applique across the front, The Hundreds applique across the back, and your favorite Adam Bomb embroidery on the left sleeve.

Regent Button-Up
A classic workwear quilted flannel style that’s cozy, not stiff, and comes in Purple or Gold to rep our LA Lakers.

Glen Pullover and Lodge Sherpa Pants
These pieces combine utility and comfort, built with water-resistant nylon panels and made of heavy-duty bonded sherpa knit that’s super soft on the inside to keep you warm in colder winter weather.

Clicker Jacket
A nod to ’70s vintage So-Cal car club coats, this style was usually made of heavy wool but we flipped it into a quilted cotton canvas to make it a bit more practical and wearable for mild winters in LA. It also features a rib-knit collar and cuffs, and The Hundreds Miller label at the left chest.

David, Senior Graphic Designer:

Welcome T-Shirt
The handshake is widely believed to have originated as an act of good faith to demonstrate you weren’t hiding a weapon. Your intentions were pure. The past year(s) has been an incredibly polarizing one for the world as we are seemingly spiraling deeper and deeper into our belief systems and enclaves. We claim to welcome all, but do we really? How honest are our own intentions? What are we holding behind our backs?
Icy Adam T-Shirt
The simplest ideas are often the most difficult to execute and you have to come correct when you reimagine Adam. This one went through over five different iterations before it finally reached the place we wanted it to be. Truly a labor of love and a fresh take on a timeless classic.
Anyone But You T-Shirt
Finding the perfect flip is a lot like crate digging. Half the battle is finding the sample and the other half is figuring out how you’re going to remix it to make something new. This one is a flip of the cover from a ’70s book of Roald Dahl short stories, with new colorways and text. I love “Anyone But You” for its ambiguity. Without knowing the question this is responding to, the viewer can interpret it in a number of different ways both positive and negative.
