BEHIND THE DESIGN :: Spring 2020 Delivery One

BEHIND THE DESIGN :: Spring 2020 Delivery One

At first glance, it was difficult for my eyes to settle on just one of the products like usual. You know, there’s always that one product that stands out more than the others. However, with a collection so bright and full of color, my eyes wanted it all. The Hundreds Spring 2020 collection makes me feel like I took a ride in the Forward Pin to travel back to the ‘90s, grabbed all the clothes I can find, then made it functional street and workwear -– something old and new our fans can all appreciate.

We spoke with each member of our design team to hear the inspos and thought process that went into making our most ambitious work yet.

Warp T-Shirt :: Growing up in LA in the ‘90s, we were all wearing oversized t-shirts with knitted designs in the collars or graphic tees with warped out logos. Groovers, Ravers, Breakers, Taggers, etc. I wanted to make a modern version of this by combining the two ideas.

Dawn Crewneck :: Striped shirts represent endlessly cool California style dating back to ‘50s surfers, ‘70s skaters and ‘90s streetwear. I love the baggy fit of this piece and the color ways were meant to emulate a sunlit or moonlit gradient sky.

End Trench Coat :: It’s so fucking tight. From the first prototype that we got, I put it on and knew this jacket was just...it. It’s a great staple to have in your closet, such a cool jacket. We live in LA and we don’t have tons of inclement weather so it’s a good piece to wear between seasons when you need layers.

Warp T-Shirt :: I just really like the Warp because it gives me ‘90s skater boy vibes and I’m a sk8r girl. We’ve been trying to do fun colors on the rib. We wanted to make it colorful and interpret a new t-shirt in a new way while still keeping it simple. This is a perfect example of that. It has a yarn-dyed collar with a tight TPR patch. He wasn’t good enough for her.

Eddie Viramontes

Graphic Designer

Jefe T-Shirt :: It’s a very personal tee, I put a lot of my interests into it. It reminds me of Japan, specifically of a time when I was in Tokyo. Walking around Tokyo, you’ll see vending machines everywhere and as I walked I would see these coffee vending machines with this sick logo. The logo always struck me as simple and clean and the layout is a flip of that. I decided to flip the image to take the mask off and changed it to a guerrilla war-type, which is based on Subcomandante Marcos, a guerrilla war leader from Mexico. Back in the ‘90s, Subcomandante Marcos would fight for the indigenous people of Mexico.

Sanity T-Shirt :: This t-shirt is different from our usual aesthetic because it’s an image from an old magazine cover, but I was still able to insert our DNA into it in a natural way. There are three major icons in the head: a ram, a burger, and a bomb. The ram (for Aries) represents Bobby, the burger represents Ben, and the bomb represents our hard work ethic and how the company is always in our minds, that’s why it’s on top. We also used 2003, the year The Hundreds was founded, which we don’t usually use. It just felt right.

Bunch Strapback :: It’s as classic streetwear as it gets. The Bunch is a flip on a clothing company that doesn’t exist anymore. If you know you know, good luck figuring it out.

Stanley Dad Hat :: The Stanley is a new type of distortion on our solid bomb and we threw some color and type into it. It’s a very classic streetwear flip done in a tasteful way.
