Who you are and where are you from?
I’m Asif Hoque. A Bangladeshi American artist born in Rome, Italy, and raised in South Florida.
How long have you been creating art and how long did it take you to find your artistic voice and style?
I have always gravitated towards the arts in my youth but I pushed myself to find my artistic voice when I made a life-changing decision to move to New York to pursue the arts 10 years ago.
What inspired this piece featured on the bandana?
When we started working on this project I was making my work for my solo show “The American Loverboy“ in London with Taymour Grahne Gallery. The show was inspired by Western Cowboys and I knew one of the pieces would be the perfect match to the bandana collection.
What gravitated you to this project?
I grew up with The Hundreds brand and when I was approached by Ben Hundreds, I knew this would make a great collaboration!
What organization/charity are the proceeds going to and why did you choose them?
Sakhi would be the organization I would choose the proceeds to go to. I believe they are doing amazing work for South Asian women. This organization is helping survivors of domestic and sexual violence in our South Asian communities. As I am a product of a South Asian woman, I have nothing but respect for Sakhi.
What would you tell the younger version of yourself, just beginning their artistic journey?
Stay focused and work towards your dreams.
How will you use this bandana?
I’ll enjoy watching my friends creatively add it to their fits.
