A Look Back at The Hundreds Weed Projects and the Legendary Green Adam

A Look Back at The Hundreds Weed Projects and the Legendary Green Adam

[Bic flick] Hello there, friends. Before we get started, can we get a nice little socially distanced smoke sesh going around the world? Break it down, roll it, pack it, however you prefer, spark up, and enjoy.

There are so many awful things happening in the world today, sometimes we just need a few minutes to… disconnect. And whether you do that through meditation, watching funny videos online, or smoking a little weed, we salute you. And for those that do all three at once, welcome to the club.

At The Hundreds, we never hit you over the head with too much weed product or content. We sprinkle it around sparingly like some beautiful keef around a blunt. Why? Because we’re from LA and weed is just part of everyday life here, so we treat it like that. Plus, we know a lot of our fans and Squad are based all around the world and may not have legal access like we do so there’s no need to rub it in.

But with 420 around the corner, let’s take a trip down memory lane and look at some of the biggest weed moments in the brand’s history, not including when I rolled a world record 15 blunts at the first Family Style Food Festival trying to ensure all the homies had enough appetite to try every single thing on the menu.

Back in 2010, Green Adam was introduced to the world. Well, he wasn’t called Green Adam until the Adam Bomb Squad NFT project gave him new life in 2021 but that’s ok. We didn’t call it Clerks 1 until Clerks 2 came out, you feel me?

Green Adam made his debut on a beautiful New Era 59/50 and accompanying organic cotton T-Shirt. But this was no regular degular hat. The 420 edition Green Adam fitted was made entirely of hemp instead of wool and polyester, plus featured a wooden button on the crown instead of the standard plastic.

At the time in 2010, no State in America had legalized cannabis for recreational use but the fight had already begun and the ball was rolling. Just two years later, Colorado would be the first state to abandon the pathetically useless “War on Drugs” and legalize marijuana for adult use. And now, nearly half of the States have done the same.

The Green Adam Hemp Fitted was a smash hit and people lined up around the block at both our LA and SF Shops to get their hands on one. Because they had to, the 420 capsule collection wasn’t made available to buy online. A sign of the times.

To celebrate the holiday and the momentous drop, Bobby Hundreds wrote Root Down, one of my favorite essays of his, all about cannabis, legalization efforts, and the pros and cons of this ancient plant. Very informative and well written, read it here.

“As many of you may or may not know, I don’t smoke weed,” Bobby wrote. “No, really, I don’t. But I wholeheartedly support legalizing marijuana use amongst responsible adults. Why? Basically, it really just doesn’t make sense not to.”

Thankfully now it’s fully legal in California and you can cop tree on every corner without worrying about a cop around the corner. Legalization has provided millions of entrepreneurs a way to legally make a living in the cannabis industry, as well as providing countless jobs and opportunities (and bakes).

A few years after Bobby’s Root Down essay and the Hemp Hat, The Hundreds loyalists were blessed with one of the greatest graphics in the brand’s history: Crazin. A flip on the iconic California Raisins that became a pop culture phenomenon in the 1980s while advertising California’s biggest cash crop, grapes, the Crazin Crew represented the Golden State’s newest botanical behemoth: weed. Instead of cartoon raisins, the OG Hundreds Crew’s faces were placed on giant nuggs of the good stuff and a legend was born. You can read more about Crazin in The Hundreds Graphic Book, which looks great on your coffee table right next to your bong and ashtray.

More recently, The Hundreds pulled off one of the greatest collabs in 420 history, landing a project with stoner icon, Kevin Smith. Working side-by-side with the decorated writer and director, The Hundreds produced a sprawling collection that touched on some of our favorite Kevin Smith classics, including Mallrats, Clerks, and Dogma. We even got Jay and Silent Bob to model the lookbook and Bobby directed an exclusive scene of Jay and Silent Bob outside our RSWD flagship that Kevin Smith himself deemed Askewniverse canon. Truly incredible.

Now, for this 420, we return to our roots. We’re bringing back Green Adam and making him available online for the first time ever. Featured on a range of T-Shirts, Pullover Hoodies, and accessories like a super discreet Pouch and Lighter Cover, Green Adam’s star has never shined so bright. Now that he doesn’t have to hide in the shadows of the Black Market, Green Adam can bask in the sunlight, free and easy.
