WYSIWYG.

WYSIWYG.

Out of the entire crop of new rappers over the past several years, I’d say Joey Bada$$ is one of my favorites. I think it’s because of his style, reminiscent of pure historic rap, raw and lyrically finessed. I think it’s because of his demeanor, which is dressed more in fine rhymes than fashion. And maybe it’s his videos also. Remember what I was saying about how important a left-field music video is for an artist these days? Well, I guess I just kinda contradicted myself because this kid’s videos are pretty straightforward. This one, in particular (under the homeys Coodie and Chike and featuring Chuck Strangers), is just bare-bones solid skills, no gimmicks, no drama. And it makes me feel kinda happy that a talented artist such as this doesn’t need the extra extra to prove his prowess. Sometimes, when you’re that good, it’s enough.

Also, always stoked on how much he and his crew are reppin’ Mighty Healthy.
