Tucked in the back of American Rag‘s denim department is a cozy nook stationed around a sewing machine, a host of industrial shears, and reams of fabric. This is ROGUE TERRITORY, designed and owned by Karl Thoenessen, a brand and service that offers custom jeans to a discerning denim customer.
Max displays some of the finer materials that Rogue Territory works with in creating and fashioning unique signature denim pieces. Right now they’re cooperating with some of the best Japanese houses to bring you premium quality.
Speaking of synergies, Rogue Territory is currently working on a slew of top-shelf collaborative projects that will start debuting later this year.
Quality Control.
Surgical instruments.
Hypnotizing.
Visit Rogue Territory’s websitefor more information but also read their blog to educate yourself on denim culture. For example, Selvage explained.
While you’re visiting Rogue Territory, take the time to appreciate American Rag’s denim room. This is where I like to go to peruse some of the best denim Los Angeles has to offer… some serious heavyweights like Naked & Famous, Current/Elliott, PRPS, RRL, and of course Big E Levi’s. They also have a healthy selection of Hysteric Glamour, which tides me over between Japan trips.
American Rag also has an impressive window display up featuring 2 pairs of Nudie denim. The first is a pair of raw indigo jeans with absolutely no treatment, crispy and bleeding.
The second is the same pair of denim but after being worn everyday for 2 years without washing. Many denim brands do their best to achieve a factory wash like this, but nothing beats the real thing. The color is staggering, and the distress/abrasions are inimitable.
