Today, I had the honor of experiencing the venerable Father Greg Boyle speak at the West Los Angeles United Methodist Church. Father Boyle is heralded for founding Homeboy Industries, the nation’s largest gang intervention program. Over the course of two decades, he has employed, counseled, rehabilitated, and saved hundreds if not thousands of at-risk youth from the grips of gang life.

Homeboy is also factioned off into its small businesses, Homeboy Bakery, Homegirl Cafe, Homeboy Merchandise, and the Homeboy Silkscreen & Embroidery shop, which offer jobs and career-building skillsets to kids who wouldn’t have access to them otherwise. Homeboy Industries is a large part of Los Angeles life, as its roof has sheltered young people from every gang in the county, with over 10,000 people a year using their facilities.
