When I was in high school, my ragtag crew of hardcore kids, wearing SOLO baggy jeans, bandanas, and vegan Adidas, all trekked out to the middle of nowhere to go to an L.A. Guns / Quiet Riot concert. We were the youngest people there by 20, 30 years, and were surrounded by big hair and Jackal tassle tees. I think I was the only ethnic person within 15 miles of that place. It was one of my favorite concert-going experiences ever, but last night was a mindful echo of that.

Steel Panther at the Key Club. Formerly known as Metal Shop, and then Metal Skool, Steel Panther is a totally awesome hair-metal band that plays weekly on Sunset. Everything is tongue-in-cheek, everyone’s boobs are fake, but the music is very VERY real.
