Escape to Paradise

Escape to Paradise

My name is Jonavan Crail. I am a photographer born and raised on a tiny island called Oahu, in the state of Hawai’i. Most people come here to escape, but this is my home.

Although I love to photograph anything and everything, the ocean is my passion.

I can remember a time when I wouldn’t have a camera with me everywhere I go. Constantly looking for “perfect” waves to surf or placid waters to dive, leaving the sessions with only “fishing tales” to be later told to my unbelieving friends. I look back and feel like I was in a state of sleep, blinded by what I and most of the world would perceive as prime conditions. The world became a lot bigger once I had this camera in my hands. Suddenly, I felt the urge to capture and share things unknown and rarely seen by people.

My friend Jarret Lau about to get blasted by this wave up the beach.

Things the average person would stay away from, I searched out. Stormy hectic conditions? Yes, please!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I just need three:

Raw. Power. Beauty.

Volcanic ash from erupting volcano Kīlauea blanketed this sunset sky.

In this short time – less than 2 years – that I’ve been taking photographs, I have had the privilege of working with some pretty dope brands: Akomplice, Morals Fiber, Meister Watches, Status Inc and my own brand Wet Dreamz Hawaii just to name a few.

What Turtle?

In my upcoming articles I will be updating you all with some cool things happening here in paradise as well as featuring stuff that inspire me, such as other artists, musicians, models, chefs, brands, and shops that all have a deep connection with the Aloha State.

If you wish to follow more of my journey, you are welcome to check out my website JonavanCrail.com or follow me on Instagram @JonavanCrail. Be sure to drop a line and say what’s up! Aloha!
