Carla Fernandez Shows Us the Depth of Indigenous Mexican Fashion

Carla Fernandez Shows Us the Depth of Indigenous Mexican Fashion

Bobby took a trip to Mexico City last month alongside the Richer Poorer crew, where he gained some surprising insight into indigenous fashion through fashion designer Carla Fernandez’s installation. Carla Fernandez’s brand delves into Mexican heritage and specifically its unique stories behind the clothing and textiles—think of it as a new way of viewing fashion through an anthropological lens.

As Christina Rangel, the managing director behind Carla Fernandez questions, “Why imitate U.S. fashion when we have such a rich culture in Mexico?” Bobby himself found a connection between The Hundreds and Carla Fernandez, noting that, “[People] aren’t buying a piece of clothing. They’re buying a story, they’re buying a piece of culture… they’re really buying a piece of our lives.”

And check out Richer Poorer’s recap video of the trip below—where they took eight creatives, threw them all together, and fostered new ideas and relationships.
