When the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation needed a new mascot to promote keeping the parks clean of litter, they enlisted the help of legendary cartoonist “Sam Lloyd” Hutchinson to bring the character to life. It was 1952 and Hutchinson wanted to call his environmentally conscious Kangaroo Trashy but the city made him change it to Parky. So, when we revived the character for a new rip in 2009, we threw Lloyd a bone and called the iconic character Trashy to honor his original concept. Trashy even made another appearance ten years later when we made portable pocket ashtrays to keep all the roaches and butts off the block.
