Check the specs on Zach Cordner (AKA
Z-Money AKA Beltran Zootroy), professional photographer and all-around
toughguy.
Knee-deep in almost a decade's worth of
experience, and packing some mean Nikon heat, Zach's documented some of
the rawest lifestyles in the action sports and entertainment industry.
Only 24, Zach's compiled an impressirve
reptoire of portraits ranging from Mos Def to P.O.D, Fred Durst to Tom
Green. As former photo editor for Stance, today, Zach's work regularly
graces the pages of Blender, Rolling Stone, People, Revolver, Newsweek,
and The Hundreds!
Just before getting on a plane to Acapulco
to shoot the Real World/Road Rules Challenge for MTV, Zach sat down with
The Hundreds...

> 'Sup
Zach. First off, how long you been shootin'?
I've been shooting since I was 15. The
main reason for picking up a camera was to shoot my friends skateboarding
and to photograph their hardcore and punk bands. Dogtown photographer,
Glen E. Friedman, was also a huge inspiration for me too.
> Friedman's
incredible. F*ck You Heroes still
blows me away...so what do you shoot with?
A glock 9 beeyatch. Well, not really.
I shoot with the Nikon D1x, F5 and F100. I also shoot with my Mamiya RZ
(it's a medium format 6x7 camera).

>What do
you love most about photography and freelancing, in general?
For me, it's freedom. How many jobs out
there let a person be as creative as in the field of photography? Sometimes
I sit back and think how lucky I am that I get paid to push the envelope
of my creativity. I'm free to do what I want and the best thing is that
I'm my own boss. I work a few days a month and get to spend the rest of
my time doing what I want.
> Most
definitely. What are you concentrating on shooting these days?
I'm mostly working with music groups right
now, for record labels and magazines. I'm also shooting for MTV, US Weekly,
Blender and shot an ad campaign for Vans shoes with their pro skate team
in Europe.

> Any upcoming
projects you want us to know about?
I'm working on a documentary about the
secret life of swinger couples. It's turning out to be really hard to
find willing participants but I've already done a shoot in Miami at a
swinger convention. My goal is to eventually publish a photography book
on the secret life of swingers in America.
