Peter is a straight-up, no-nonsense, 27-year-old kid from New York, currently residing in LA. He's non-assuming, speaks deliberately, and aside from his loud-as-a-motorbike shoes, you'd never pick this guy out from a crowd.

His alias, Methamphibian, is a rockstar. He's renwoned in the shoe industry as the King of Shoe Customizing. Might not seem like a big deal to some, but whenever his artwork drops (only at the most exclusive boutiques around the world), sneakerfreaks sleep on the sidewalks for days, foregoing meals, showers, and sleep, to kidnap his kicks. I've seen numbers of heads roll up on Meth just for a handshake, a quick hello, or a smile of admiration. Like I said. Rockstar.

Oh yeah. Just in case you still don't get it. Many of his shoes hit upwards of tens of thousands of dollars on Ebay, only fueling the hype-fire. This week, Meth's latest customs hit the street at Essense in Japan, and we got at the boy.

TH: Whats going on at Essense this week?

M: we are releasing the 2nd 'meth X essense' project at the store essense in tokyo. (march 13th. retail 58,000-75,000 yen... roughly $600-$800 per pair)

TH: Whats the inspiration behind your latest customs?

M: the inspiration comes from 'sex drugs & violence' titled "the hollywood trilogy"...each shoe represents one of those somehow.

TH: Have your customizing techniques evolved on these new customs?

M: with each release i think there is an evolution in both the quality and the aesthetic and overall style.
TH: There has been a lot of talk in the sneaker community that Methamphibian is overrated and overcharges for his work... What are your thoughts on this?

M: definitely. meth sucks, don't believe the hype. honestly though, i could care less. it hasn't affected business and i enjoy what i do. i just love how people can criticize art through their computer screens. if you've seen the work in person, rocked it and you have something to tell me, then i'm listening. otherwise, its background noise.
TH: Word. In your opinion, are there any other shoe customizers that can hold their own?

M: there's a real ill kid named Rob Hernandez who we just signed into our crew. expect big things from him. in my opinion the most talented underrated dude in the custom game.

TH: Talk to us a little about the Methamphibian T-shirt line...

M: we started it last year back in july at undefeated with the Reloaded Gallery and the release of the Full Clip AF1 shoes. it was an unbelievable success so we kept it going. we're planning on a lot more designs coming up very soon. they are gonna be at select botique shops and in very limited quantities.

TH: Swee.t... Lastly, whats the last shoe you picked up?

M: bought a pair of gen. release blazer mids in the straight up OG black/white colorway..
