Kicking it with Kristina

Anyone that knows me, knows I have a lot of different friends. One of which is Kristina Rose, her and I met a few years ago through working together on certain productions. Since then we have gotten use to going out to parties and hanging out with friends together. I think it was her out look towards life that made it easy to hang with. She is the type of  girl that you want in your clique, knows how dudes think, doesn’t sugar coat stuff and at the same time while keeping her femininity she keeps it real…. 24/7. Now usually if I was posting something about Kristina it would either be a photo set we did or it would be a candid night out with friends but today is neither. It appears she has been a little busy developing her crafting skill. And she does good work on anything from t-shirts to jeans to cell phone cases. I thought it would be interesting to let you guys check out her growing passion, especially since I think she has a knack at it. So I went over to her place to get some pics of some of her pieces and to get some feedback as to her creative process, inspiration and personal taste.

Van Styles: How did you get started into making custom clothing?

Kristina Rose: I guess I’ve always done that kinda thing. I just recently picked it back up just for fun.

VS: Did you have any prior experience with creating custom clothing?

KR: When I was in high school I use to get really into creating looks and manipulating clothes for my girlfriends and myself. I dressed weird and I was always more concerned with getting ready for school then actually attending class.

VS: What if any influences are behind your creations/designs?

KR: It depends on what I am making. Usually I am starting with something like a boy shirt or something so the base of that will influence what I do. Usually I am just trying to figure out how can I make this feminine and what is the shirt just begging me to do to it. Sometimes whatever I am watching or listening to a lot at the time has a mild influence. I am very nostalgic about certain things. Those feelings influence me sometimes.

VS: Do you have a favorite designer/artist?

KR: Drag Queens. They are the McGyvers of illusion and making anything fabulous.

VS: Favorite “street wear” brands?

KR: Of course I LOVE LOVE HUF, The Hundreds,Deadline. I really love me some Married to the Mobb, those chicas are the most.

VS: Where do you see fashion going?

KR: Hopefully Wesley Snipes “Demolition Man”

VS: What would you like to see come back into style?

KR: Scrunchie socks,belted-cinch-waist Janet pants,Chokers, ruffle socks, hammer pants on boys,Girls wearing HEELS,Flight jackets on girls and more flannels for everybody!

VS: How many of your fans have asked to buy pieces off of you?

KR: I am actually surprised at how many e-mails and messages I get on my blog from girls wanting to buy stuff from me or that have shirts they want to send me to customize. It’s like the ultimate compliment and its definitely something I want to start looking into doing.

VS: Last questions, do the clothes make the woman or does the woman make the clothes?

KR:I feel like the clothes are just the frame. Good or bad the girl makes or breaks the clothes.
