Recap Miami :: Day 3

Recap Miami :: Day 3

Miami has a deep history with Art Deco.  From early films such as Scarface to current ones like Pain and Gain, it is evident Art Deco has a role in Miami. But, as it happens time takes its toll on the properties and some lose its touch, and the are demolished or built over. The exception is South Beach. The people have recognized these significant works of art and have made it so that most properties don’t get demoed, but rather remodeled.

As I was wandering around different neighborhoods I came upon a structure that I wasn’t sure what they were planning on doing with. Nothing was left, except an exterior that was supported by huge metal rods – just the facade. Being the curious photographer I jumped the wall to check out what was going on inside.  My swift action reminded me a lot of something out of Saving Private Ryan.

It turned out to be a few structures grouped together with the same process; gutted out and ready for something. In the mean time it looked like squatters had been using what was left for cover.  There was also some graffiti which told me that the locals are not letting whatever potential is left to go to waste. So check out my photos below, and you will see what I came across.
