Pretty Girls Make Graves

Happy Halloween! What are you doing tonight?

Candy Apples And Razorblades

We had a pre Halloween get togetha at Billy’s last night

Right Meow: DJ Skeet Skeet

Skeet is a DJ, a hustler, a nerd, and a homie.  Here’s a look into his life:

Where are you from

I was born in LA but moved to Iowa when I was 1 and a half when my folks got divorced and lived there til I was 16, then I moved back to LA.  So I kinda call both home.  Iowa gets a lot less shine though so you can plug Davenport, Iowa.

What music are you listening to at the moment

I’m listening to Gumshoe, Girl Unit, Kanye, Touche Amore, Zola Jesus, Martin Bros, Canblaster, Uproot Andy, Jimmy Edgar and Willow Smith’s single like every other song.

What are you currently working on

I’m about a month into my album which involves a lot of sessions with songwriters and doing my best to make trap rap and house music coexist in one space.  I’m also starting to wrap up the Gumshoe project, she’s the first artist I’ve taken under my wing and it’s pretty awesome, shes like a 2010 Aaliyah or something.  These incredible R&B melodies on really adventurous beats that my buddy Filip (@djturbotito) and I have been putting together.  Her influences are all over the place so its been a lot of fun to work on that.

Favorite person to follow on twitter

Probably Slim Thug he kills me like every day. I kinda feel like 50 cent swagger jacked him with all those outlandish ass tweets but maybe rappers are just universally hilarious.

Why do you chose to maintain a drug/alcohol free lifestyle, has it ever been difficult for you considering your environment for work

When I was younger I was a really dedicated athlete I was also really into music so when I fell into punk rock it was kind of a clashing of worlds where here I was totally obsessed with this counter culture but a big part of it was this self destruction that would have totally ruined my other passion athletics.  So when I found sXe it just made so much sense, the political element was something I could totally get behind, the amazing bands and fuck even the gang mentality of my Hardline idiot friends was fun for a while.

I think all of that translated really well in dance music culture as well, so much of dance music is just about energy and expression and floor punching looks just as retarded as twirling glow sticks so if your goin’ in you better believe in that shit top to bottom.  Both scenes being so niche in the US and getting almost zero mainstream love also created this us against them mentality too which is fun for a bit.  Obviously dance music has grown immensely in the last few years and it has allowed me to make DJing a full time thing but I still have trouble coming to terms with the idea that I’m a full time DJ now.  Bit strange really but I think the idea that this is still a hobby I do for fun allows me to live without feeling a lot of the social pressures some other  DJs or party kids might feel.  That said I have no problems doing parties where kids are off their face or doing stages put on by booze brands, I’m a firm believer in “to each his own” I’m not trying to push my views on to anybody.

One of your favorite shows you’ve played

The Metro in Sydney, Australia with my buds 3OH!3. The whole tour was amazing but Sydney was mental top to bottom and getting to hang with my best friends in a city like that and have that much fun was pretty rad.

Least favorite aspect of what you do

The fucked up sleep schedule for sure.  I cant tell if I’m getting old or just permanently Jet Lagged.  Probably both but the pros definitely outweigh the cons, I cant complain at all.

Who influenced you as a kid

My mom for sure, she’s the best.

J Wow or Snook

Snooki’s my nigga.

A perfect day for you would consist of

Sleeping in, playing some madden, maybe a massage? I don’t know iI’m pretty happy as is, it’d be cool to buy my mom a house, that’ll be a cool day for sure.

Check out more of Skeet at EatSkeet.com and read his funniez all day on da Tweeter!

Bad Dads

SUPER bummed I won’t be SF on the 30th for this amazing show.  Bad Dads is an art show tribute to the films of Wes Anderson, my personal favorite.  This art looks amazing/ hilarious and the show will exhibit work from a wide variety of awesome artists.  “There are over 60 participating confirmed artists including Munk One, Tatiana Suarez, Carlo Ramos, Evan B Harris, Ana Bagayan, Serge Gay Jr., Little Friends of Printmaking, Audrey Pongracz, Tim Doyle, Becky Dreistadt, Dave Macdowell, and many others.”

This one fucking OWNS

Ugh why isn’t this in LA :( Someone buy me all da Billy Murrays!

Bad Dads is open October 30 at the LoPo Gallery, 1171 Polk St., in San Francisco.  Gallery hours are noon-7 p.m Tuesday through Saturday.  The art will be for sale at spokeart.net.

Bikini Girls With Machine Guns

Yesterday I shot some photos for the lovely Shay Maria. Here’s a look at what we got. She rules.

Look at Shay being all sexiful in the new Afrojack video “Take Over Control”.  Also make sure to follow her Twitter & Tumblr.

Happy almost Halloween love Meow & Shay.

I Remember Halloween

“A homecoming of sorts for the California native, Into Darkness will feature Neck Face at his nastiest – meaning of course, at his best. Following up 2009′s now legendary performance-cum-exhibition in Miami, the artist sets his sights on Hollywood and brings with him the same energy and originality that has made him a cult favorite. Lock your windows and close your doors. He’s on the loose and there’s no telling what surprises he’ll have in store this Halloween.”

And Party And Bullshit

Right Meow: Keiko Lynn

I first saw Keiko Lynn the way I usually first see every cute internet girl.  On Everything You Love To Hate.  The lurking began and I quickly fell in love with her blog which is constantly updated with her adorable outfits and outings.  Besides this Keiko is also a fashion designer for her own line Postlapsaria.  Now she’s on my blog. Yay.

How long have you been blogging your outfits, makeup etc?  Have you ever blogged anything besides this?

I started my current blog back in November 2008, so I’m getting to the two year mark.  Before that, I had a LiveJournal and even before that, an Open Diary.  I’ve been blogging since I was in high school.  Back then, it was mostly teen angst in journal form.  My LiveJournal was about my general life, clothing line, love and heartache.  Oh, Livejournal.

Tell us about your line Postlapsaria

Postlapsaria is something I started when I was in college, as a way to make a living without actually getting a real job. I had a stringent school schedule and needed flexibility, so I started making clothes. I basically made and sold the stuff I was already making for myself: reconstructed thrift finds. “Postlapsaria” means after the fall or destruction, so it suited the movement. I took discarded clothing and made it into something new. Now, I make mostly originals- but the name stuck.

Whats an average day in the life of Keiko

I spend lot of time sewing, working on the computer and having conversations with my animals.  It’s quite mundane, actually.

Did you always want a career in fashion

Not at all.  I majored in Musical Theatre!

What are you most proud of

In retrospect, it wasn’t my finest work (at all) – but my fashion show collaboration with MAC’s Viva Glam campaign years ago was a defining moment for me. It made me realize how achievable my dream actually was.

Are you working on anything exciting

Indeed- but I am not allowed to talk about it yet!

What music do you listen to

A strange mix of old and new.  Some favorites: M83, Band of Horses, Circa Survive, Denali, The Velvet Teen, Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline, Broken Social Scene.  Also awesomely bad 80s and 90s music.

Which blogs do you read

Most of my favorites aren’t fashion or style blogs (though I love those, too).  Pacing the Panic Room, Cup of Jo,Huffington Post.

What do you want to accomplish this year

Financial security.  Is that possible in one year?  We will find out.  I have other endeavors, but I don’t want to jinx it.

Most memorable fashion event/ show you’ve attended so far

Ports 1961 was my first show at the tents, so it will forever be a favorite.  As for events, having dinner with Kenneth Cole was extremely memorable- he’s someone I have looked up to for years.  His method of breaking into the business was extremely innovative.  I have always admired designers who took a less rudimentary approach and still succeeded, since I have no formal fashion training.  It gives me hope.

Want more Keiko?  Of course you do. Follow her on Twitter, read her blog, and check her store.

Infinity Guitars

Last night Bago and I got our faces rocked off my Sleigh Bells at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa.  It was fucking amazing, they played in a tiny room in the bar.  Couldn’t have asked for a better show.  The sound randomly was going out but everyone was singing so loud you couldn’t tell.

I wanna see them again right now.

On another note of awesomeness we’ll be seeing these fools tonight:
