Bobby’s World
Bobby is very good at capturing people in their element and sharing it with the world, making you feel a part of his adventures of awesomeness. But who captures Bobby in his element? ME! I took these this morning while asking him for help with my camera, he is my sensei. I am his annoying grasshopper. Yes, this is where the magic happens.
Gabfest 2010
Last night was the second Annual Gabfest show in memory of my sister Gabriella Elizabeth Mantini to raise money for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. We had 5 awesome bands come out to play an all ages show at Babe’s Warehouse in Long Beach. Hippy Riot played first followed by On The Five, Bombon, White Night & Taudacity (Todd Congelliere + Audacity). Including a few online donations & selling some of the Gabfest shirts we raised over one thousand dollars so far for MADD. If you want to take action to support this cause you can always DONATE ONLINE. My sister was 21 years old when we lost her to a drunk driver and since then it’s been a life goal to help spread awareness & do what I can to make a difference so that no one ever has to lose a child, sibling, or loved one to such a senseless tragedy. I am beyond grateful to our friends, family, and the bands who came together to help support this cause. It means more to me than I can explain and it was a much better turn out that anticipated. And next year will only be bigger!
It was an amazing turn out & I would like to again thank everyone who contributed and supported this extremely important cause. Love you all!
Nasty As I Wanna Be
Last night was Neapolitan‘s first show at the Roxy. It sold out quick and their performance was followed by Chris Young, Beardo, Andre Legacy & Dirt Nasty. They did amazing and all the home girls came out to support. A few special guests showed up to preform with Dirt. It was drunken chaos & I think I saw a girl have sex with the stage. For serious.
My beautiful Talisa Monet.
Bitches go crazy for Andre.
Through This New Frame Of Mind A Thousand Flowers Could Bloom
Last night I got a couple pictures from this little lady Dayna. Here’s a few for y’all:
Yes the inspiration for this photo came from THIS. And what.
Tonight Dirt Nasty‘s female rap group Neapolitan is playing the Roxy along w/ Dirt & other guests. If you can’t make it out to the show check the blog this weekend, should be fun/cats/ice cream/slutty times. Have an awesome weekend kittiez.
Right Meow: Lindsay Degen
This week I got to ask artist/ designer Lindsay Degen some questions. I’m always intrigued by young talent that is unique and original & definitely think people like this need to get more recognition. She first caught my eye when I saw her photos on Citizen Couture from Fashion Week in NY. I then realized she’s not only a pretty girl but a pretty girl with brains who creates rad pieces. “Basically, I am working on exploring the line between fine art and fashion.” It’s so rare to see something that hasn’t been done.
Where did you grow up
I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio.
What exactly do you do
I make stuff. Mainly giant knit stuff in the shape of bodies and body parts. I also work with Visible Panty Line and other high fashion companies creating (knitting) one of a kind pieces for runway presentations.
How’d you get into it
My grandmother taught me how to knit when I was 3. I took a small hiatus and picked it back up in middle school. I always loved to make stuff and draw.
What are you most proud of at the moment
I’m very proud of the “Body” series that I just completed. I am now trying to find a gallery to show the work. I’m also super excited that I just completed a hand made book of my work. I had never made a book before and it was really fun.
What are you currently working on
2 things: I am the Production Designer (basically the art department) on Alex Karpovsky’s upcoming feature which I’m really excited about. Its my first time working on a film and I’m excited that such an awesome director trusted my creative insight. I am also working on a wearable collection of knit garments with my best friend and fellow knitter Caroline Hust. We are planning to show during autumn-winter 2011 fashion week. Its going to be most fun knitwear ever that anyone would just want to live in becuase it’s the softest wools, cashmeres, and cottons.
What do you dislike about the fashion industry most
I don’t like the pressure to complete 2-4 whole collections ever year. I don’t think creativity has a deadline. I think that the fashion industry would benefit if there were companies that only did winter, companies that only did summer, companies for resort, for pre-fall, etc. Because there is a need to keep producing, designers don’t fully think things out.
What are your inspirations for your art
I am inspired by people’s drawings and assemblages who have never taken an art class, such as: Henry Darger and Bill Traylor. Also Patti Smith, folk music, and pop culture.
What is one of your favorite/ most memorable projects you have accomplished
I just finished a sock that I was handknitting that I’m pretty in love with. I think sock knitting is the most pure form of knitting. Its technical but relaxing.
If you could work with/for anyone who would it be
Patti Smith- shes beautiful, smart, and humble.
Favorite quote
“You better work, work it girl” -Ru Paul.

If You Want Me Let Me Known Where Do You Wanna Go
So last night we saw the XX at the Palladium as you already know. It was amazing of course, I’m not crazy about that venue but they put on a great show so it doesn’t matter. I noticed their fan base got super weird within their reecent growth in popularity. Pretty lame, a bunch of drunk hipsters who were blacked out by the time the band got on stage. But reguardless, it was spectacula! They said how grateful they are for being on this awesome tour & noted that after this one they won’t be going on tour “for a while”. So if you didn’t see them, that really sucks. Their intro was amazing like always, and happens to be my favorite song. Bare with this video for the first four seconds, the bass was super craze and I was right next to the speakers, but you get the picture.
Speaking of their intro have y’all heard this. I dig.
I’m super bummed I didn’t even think about getting a photo pass but I managed to get one decent photo from my phone, it probably bothers me a lot more than it bothers you.
Anyways it was an amazing performance as expected and if you weren’t there or were blacked out that’s a bummer.
Night before that Aurielle and I stopped by the Music Box for Nylon’s Fall Music Tour. Does It Offend You, Yeah & Kele played. We only were there for a little but saw Does It Offend You, Yeah long enough to take a few photos of the cute bass player with the rad stance. I guess the singer was sick so it was only instrumental but I wouldn’t have noticed cos I was just watching this Brody Armstrong-ish little chick. Yes I still call her Armstrong not Dalle.
