MEET ‘EM AND GREET ‘EM

#

On Saturday, Ben and I hosted a little meet-and-greet at The Hundreds San Francisco, since we were both in the city.  Lots of great conversations with some of the best and brightest of you… always leave these events feeling all the more inspired and excited to get back to work on The Hundreds.  It’s nice to know our creations are falling into the right hands. Thanks to everyone who came out, and here’s some proof for those who missed it.

585 POST ST.

5 years ago we came, we saw, we conquered.  Post & Taylor, Union Square, San Francisco.  THSF then, now, and forever!

Friday morning’s big “POST” collaborative drop with New Era to celebrate our birthday…  Most of the POST collection is sold out at this point, which is pretty cool considering our customers didn’t know what they were getting — we didn’t release any product shots until a day after the release. #HUMBLEBRAG.

If you visit THSF, note: Bryan and John are NOT ME.

THE HUNDREDS X NEW ERA :: POST 5-YEAR ANNIVERSARY

#

To celebrate the 5 year anniversary of our store in San Francisco, we partnered with New Era on these exclusive “POST” collaborations that are each limited to 50 pieces.  The collection silently released yesterday morning to a solid line at THSF, even though this is the world’s first public look at the headwear and apparel.  Certain sizes are already sold out in most product, so get down here quick…  AVAILABLE NOW only at The Hundreds San Francisco, 585 Post St.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been 5 years.  Half a decade since The Hundreds San Francisco opened its doors on the corner of Post and Taylor in Union Square.  To date, it’s my favorite shop of all four.  I know for Ben and I, it’s still one of our proudest achievements.  We’ve learned so much from it, the good, the bad, the ugly.  It was intended to be so much more than just another Streetwear boutique.  It was supposed to be more of an amusement park ride – a true brand experience – than a run-of-the-mill retail store.  Art schools and architecture classes take field trips to THSF because of its bizarre buildout.  I’ve traveled the world and still have nothing to compare it to.  If you’re a The Hundreds fan and have never stepped foot inside THSF, you’re only getting a part of the story.

I’m sentimental about THSF because it took so much of us.  It took our time, multiple trips to the Bay to the point we had an apartment in the city, it cost us an arm and a leg, we were young and hungry and dreamt so insanely big to come up with something like this, and have the balls to do it without thought of dollars and sense.  THSF means a lot to us personally and to the brand and company as a whole.

If you’re over 21, come out tonight and celebrate with us at the Sutter Room.  It should be a good time.  You can also stop by THSF tomorrow afternoon to meet us.  And of course, our special collaborative range with New Era – the “POST” collection – is now available exclusively at The Hundreds San Francisco.  Everything limited to 50 pieces!  I mean, come on, this POST product is so rare that we’re not even showing you pictures of it before you get into the store and see it for yourselves…

Our opening morning crew on that fateful day, 5 years ago.  Cold, sleepless, tired, emotionally and mentally exhausted.  But so proud:

Outside the line was down the block.  The first of many that POST would see:

Fun fact, Benny Gold was our first receiptholder at THSF.  (Which is coincidental as his new store opens today.)

The Hundreds San Francisco.  THSF.  POST.  Post & Taylor.

Thank you for an unforgettable 5 years, SF!

REBLOG :: TOP 10 REASONS I LOVE THSF

#

originally posted on October 1, 2010

If any of our stores is rife with symbolism, it’s The Hundreds San Francisco.  There are so many hidden secrets and storylines within this shop that it’d be impossible to break ‘em all down in one blog entry.  So here are my 10 favorite attributes of The Hundreds SF.

1) The stainless steel, bomb-proof, sliding laboratory door

Our door opens-and-shuts faster than the main entrance to the Starship Enterprise, and sounds just as space-futuristic.  And yes, it is literally bomb-proof, which is our subtle nod to our logo.  Most days, the door just stays open, because we realized many customers are so disoriented with the steel enclosure that they figure we’re closed.  So the days you get to actually see it in action, consider yourself lucky!

2) 100 fiberoptic lights embedded into the ground

Most everybody skips right over this, in every sense of the word.  But at the entrance, there are 100 fiberoptic blinking lights hidden in the cement.  They alternate colors and flash at random.

3) Skull Rock

At the far end of The Hundreds SF is Skull Rock, which is home to Captain Hook.  Seeing as The Hundreds alludes to the story of the Lost Boys, much of this store was built around the premise of Peter Pan’s adventures.  This also includes the…

4) … Hooks

Instead of hanging the clothes on traditional poles, some of our key cut/sew pieces hang on tiny curved hooks, once again an allusion to Captain Hook.

5) Floating Showcase

Another big inspiration for THSF was the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland.  So the floor was varnished with multiple layers of clear-coat to give off the impression of black water.  And the showcase in the center of the store mimics a boat sailing through the caverns.

6) The Ride

In fact, the entire store is supposed to give off the impression of an amusement park ride.  The day we opened the store, we even played a CD throughout the shop that made it sound like a rattling rollercoaster was passing through the walls, with the accompanying riders screaming.

7) The catacombs

When we built The Hundreds LA, I made a little art installation out front on both sides of the entrance.  It’s 2 sets of skeletons, and they represent Ben and I, and our souls being invested in the brand and shop.  So that idea continued onto THSF with the skulls basically multiplying and taking over.  However, this time the taken souls belong to all of you who have come along with us on this journey, and the generations of California Culture that are the foundation for our brand.  So if you look closely, some of the skulls are wearing Locs, or you’ll see different types of skateboards to represent both the ’80s and ’90s, spray cans, etc.

8 ) The Caverns

That goes without saying, that the entire store is encased in this beautiful black rock, that actually isn’t stone at all. In fact it’s cement, and the artisan who made the molds actually traveled up Northern California and went down into the original rock quarry where the California Gold Rush started.  So you’re virtually standing in the same caves that ignited the mass migration out West over 100 years ago.  It’s a loose metaphor for the streetwear gold rush of the time, and also a great story.

9) Exit Sign

Gotta love that custom EXIT sign.

10) Cobwebs

We, nor THSF’s architects, TylerSpencer, had anything to do with the cool spiderwebs sprouting up in the front window. But nature took it’s own course with this one, and we like the effect, so we’re gonna go ahead and keep it around.  If that’s alright with you.

And this is The Hundreds San Francisco.  Budge, Bryan, Gio, Micah, and John:

POST > RSWD ???

They say the church isn’t the building, it’s the congregation. And the same can be said of THSF.  It’s all you:
