PUBLIC LABEL :: FA/WI/12

#

The Hundreds is pleased to announce the release of the Public Label Fall/Winter 2012 collection, now available ONLY at The Hundreds’ flagship locations (and the Online Shop beginning Monday, October 22).

Public Label was first introduced in 2006 and is an extremely limited, design-oriented menswear line, constructed with quality fabrications and production details. The theme of the Fall/Winter ‘12 Public Label collection is inspired by the style of the classic soccer hooligan and offers warm, comfortable pieces for any wardrobe. The line includes basic flannels, baseball tees, and crewneck sweatshirts in several different colorways, along with a Sherpa-lined flight jacket, quilted wovens featured in brushed twill, chinos, and high-quality selvedge denim in a mustard and a raw denim colorway. The stand out piece is sure to be the water resistant waxed canvas jacket, lined with the collection’s recurring buffalo plaid detailing. This is also the first Public Label collection to introduce accessories, featuring a USA-made leather wallet and belt, in addition to a Merino wool beanie.

Public Label provides accessibility and one-of-a-kind style to the customer with an eye for fine goods. The Hundreds is staying true to the same pricing strategy implemented several seasons ago, administering low price-points to accommodate sophisticated buyers from all backgrounds, all the while offering unique, fashion-forward, limited pieces with minimal branding.

PUBLIC LABEL : SPRING/SUMMER 2012

The Hundreds is pleased to announce the release of Public Label Spring/Summer ’12, available on Saturday, April 28, 2012 only at The Hundreds Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Santa Monica flagship locations (and then the Public Label Online Shop on Tuesday, May 1st, 2012.)

Public Label (first introduced in 2006) is an extremely limited, design-oriented menswear line, constructed with quality fabrications and production details.  The theme of the Spring/Summer ’12 Public Label collection is bringing things back to basics; to supply the customer with important standard pieces that one may find essential to their everyday wardrobe. With the line including basic tees and tanks in an array of colors, denim jackets, shorts, chinos, and high-quality selvedge denim jeans, Public Label’s Spring/Summer ’12 collection offers something for everyone.

Continuing the strategy introduced with Public Label’s prior collection, pricing has been significantly lowered to accommodate sophisticated buyers from all backgrounds, while still providing unique, fashion-forward, limited pieces with minimal branding.  Public Label provides accessibility and one-of-a-kind style to the customer with an eye for fine goods.

This Thursday, debuting exclusively at The Hundreds Los Angeles, The Hundreds New York, The Hundreds Santa Monica, and The Hundreds San Francisco (with online to follow later), introducing our new season of…

The Hundreds PUBLIC LABEL:

The biggest news may not lie in the garments or design, but the new, reworked pricing structure of The Hundreds Public Label.  This season, The Hundreds Public Label’s prices are significantly lowered. This is our most advanced tier of The Hundreds apparel, as far as design and materials go, not to mention the most limited… Traditionally, The Hundreds Public Label has been accordingly fitted along a more expensive price tag.

But starting this season, The Hundreds Public Label’s prices are slashed.  In some cases, a Public Label garment may be substantially cheaper than regular in-line pieces under The Hundreds.  How can this be?

I talked about it in a recent interview with High Snobiety, but here’s a little excerpt of the changes we’ve implemented with THPL:

______________________________

What can you tell us about the re-worked pricing structure of the line?

Because of the extremely limited numbers (at times, 100 pieces or less), we have hefty costs in making this stuff. In the past, we wholesaled Public Label to top-tier accounts so we had to work in the keystoned prices. As many of Public Label’s buyers may remember, the retail prices ended up being exorbitant – unfortunately a lot of people who appreciated the design and low quantities of the product simply couldn’t afford to buy it. We weren’t boosting the prices for no reason, we were just taxed that much making Public Label.

The name and concept of the line is “Public Label.” It’s a response to private-label goods, but also meant to be for everyone. All of our supporters should have a shot at Public Label, not just the rich ones. So how could we sensibly price this line without being forced to make huge quantities of it, and still keep it limited, special, and exclusive?

The answer is in our own retail front. The Hundreds has an advantage over many other brands who might attempt a similar thing because of our 4 physical flagship stores. In a way, we have our own distribution chain – our own accounts to sell to directly. We cut out the middleman, we can keep the prices and numbers low. Mission accomplished. From this point forward, Public Label is exclusively distributed through The Hundreds LA, SF, NY, and Santa Monica. We’re selling Public Label at ridiculously affordable prices…A Letterman’s jacket that would have hit the customer for more than $400 USD in the past is now under $200. Denim was $200 before and now we’re able to put it on the rack for $84. The new Public Label fleece and Henleys are in the $60-$70 range. The crazy part is that now, most of Public Label is far cheaper than what’s in the regular The Hundreds line. AND it’s much more limited.

GOOD LOOK.

By the time a finished The Hundreds product gets in your hands, it’s gone through quite a journey.  From the conceptual/design stage, to sampling, sales, production, distribution, and purchase.. and somewhere amidst that all is marketing, and the photo shoots and encompassing campaigns to tell the story of the pieces.  This week alone I had 3 photo shoots to deal with.  Public Label S/S 2011 was one, with our face Logan, you may recognize him from the current season of Public Label.  Here’s a very exclusive sneak peek at how the next season of Public Label is shaping up…

I also shot Ren, who graciously modeled our Spring/Summer 2011 range of The Hundreds Eyeware.  Here she is in our classic Phoenixes:

Afterwards, Ren took her model mask off and revealed her true identity.

PUBLIC LABEL F/W 2010

#

This Thursday, November 18, 2010, Public Label returns to THLA, THSF, and THNY.

Years ago, Public Label was the original title for The Hundreds cut/sew clothing when we first moved beyond graphic t-shirts to a full range of apparel like selvedge denim and outerwear.  Eventually we just called the entire line The Hundreds, and the name “Public Label” was lost.

We’re bringing “Public Label” back now as a special seasonal collection of higher-end, deliberately thought-out, wearable goods that cater to a more discerning The Hundreds customer.  You can expect more sophisticated cuts, refined quality, palatable colors, and timely design from Public Label, compared to the more familiar The Hundreds offerings.
