“Why stop a good thing? That was exactly our reasoning when given the option to team up with The Hundreds again. Between their values and our ideals, this is one of the most forward thinking design patterns we have done and we’re excited to watch it hit the market.”

-Carl Steindler, Marketing Manager, HEX

RIDING THROUGH THIS WORLD

#

It’s pretty much been the most perfect weekend here in Los Angeles, so we’ve been maximizing our outdoorsy time with as much hiking, biking, surfing, and sun-soaking as possible. Which reminds us… The folks over at State Bicycle Co. (the wizards behind that collaborative fixed gear bike we built last year) filmed this beautiful video series of a typical day and night riding through Port Elizabeth, South Africa atop a The Hundreds X State Bicycle Co. fixie. Watch this scenic little video masterpiece, and then step away from the computer and into the light, people.

NEW WAVE.

#, #

So some of us arrived in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii earlier this afternoon to kick off the weekend-long celebration for the next The Hundreds X Hawaii collection.  From eating Rainbow’s plate lunch to finding the secret Black Point pool to partaking in Hiroshi yakiniku for dinner to Ben getting kicked off Instagram, I’d say we’re off to a pretty good start…  Aloha!

CABIN BOY.

#, #, #

Back when we were setting up our recent The Hundreds by Travis Millard project, we paid the artist and illustrator a visit at his awesome cabin in the woods around Los Angeles (yes, they exist!).  A slew of historically famous artists and authors have hid out around these parts and Travis is one of ‘em.  It was cool and inspiring just to wander around his abode and look at all his doodles and illustrations – felt like being inside his mind.  Like Being John Malkovich. Being Travis Millard.  By the way, if you’re on Instagram, and if you aren’t already, I’d highly recommend following this guy to watch his process and Like his creative storytelling through cartoons.

RAPID FIRE :: Q&A WITH BRODINSKI OF BROMANCE

Bromance-Paris-The-Hundreds-Photoshoot-1

It’s been a hot minute since we waved au revoir to the last of our The Hundreds X Bromance stock. Fortunately for our French following (and those willing to fork over the extra di-dough for incurred shipping rates), Club 75’s got the international exclusive to the hard (scratch that, virtually impossible)-to-come-by capsule collection.  To celebrate the occasion, we stole Bromance brainchild Louis Brodinski away from his busy schedule and hit him with a lightning speed round of rapid-fire questions. The Hundreds X Bromance is currently available through Club 75’s Online Shop… Read on to get the inside scoop on the collab, as well as what it takes to be part of the Bromance crew. Where do we sign up?

Can you tell us about your recent project with The Hundreds?

Recently, The Hundreds released a collaboration collection we did together between the brand and my record label, Bromance Records. Thanks to Hassan Rahim and Guillaume Berg for helping me on this one.

What’s the significance of “90026” and “75010”? We see it pop up at random throughout the collection.

90026 is the Echo Park postcode in LA, because I used to live there for a while. I’m back in Paris now, 75010, the 10th District, where our office is!

The entire line is black. Is black your favorite color / Do you abide by the code “all black everything” when you’re getting dressed in the morning?

Are we considering black as a color? I’m definitely “all black everything,” but sometimes when it’s sunny I’m wearing a white T-shirt… that’s not that much ahah!

Who’s a part of the Bromance fam? And can we join?

The family is getting pretty big… from Manu Barron, my manager and associate on Bromance; Guillaume, Ed & Elena, our team in Paris; all the artists, Monsieur Monsieur, Club Cheval, Panteros 666, Louisahhh, Pipes, G. Vump, and of course Gesaffelstein.

Send me good music and I will join you guys to the team!

What inspired the name Bromance?

The fact that we are always spending time together, and our relations are far more than a working/friend relationship. The only word that can describe it was a Bromance, so I didn’t hesitate that much. And after all, it starts the same as Brodinski!

What inspires you creatively? Musically?

Pretty much everything, from travelling to pure art… I’m looking for inspiration all the time. People are also inspiring, so I love meeting and working with them.

Any plans to play a show in the US in the near future?

Yes! Next week in New York, Detroit and San Diego. Then I will come back for Hard Summer in August! Excited!!

Any last words?

Loved working with The Hundreds! Long life to the brand, and thank you for the opportunity!

MIND YOUR PEAS & CARROTS

#, #

Later on today, rapper/designer/renaissance Fairfaxian Casey Veggies will cut the ribbon on his inaugural brick-and-mortar store (just around the way on Edinburgh), P&C S. S., along with partners-in-crime Anwar Carrots (pictured below) and Joshton Peas. The Hundreds will be in good company among the store’s preliminary offerings, including collaborations with Puma, Crooks and Castles, U.S. Alterations, Odd Future, and more. We dropped by the shop to get a few snaps of the crew getting things set-up; stop by the Grand Opening at 311 Edinburgh Ave. to see what awaits inside:

POP-UP VIDEO

San Francisco gets weird. Especially on 4/20. Here’s a little video to prove it, thanks to Zachary, our intrepid videographer, who braved throngs of pot heads and Dead Heads and eager shoppers to bring you first-hand footage of our The Hundreds X Grateful Dead Pop-Up Shoppe in all its tripped out glory. Shop the entire The Hundreds X Grateful Dead collection in select retail locations, and in our Online Shop.

BAKE UP SAN FRANCISCO!

#

This weekend, there was a dark cloud over San Francisco, and not because of the weather (which was actually pretty sunny). If you aren’t picking up what I’m putting down, I’m talking about the big, puffy cloud of marijuana smoke that filled the air for 4/20. To celebrate the drop of The Hundreds X Grateful Dead, and the grand opening of our Haight Street Pop-Up Shoppe, SF’s finest stoners, freaks, Streetwear aficionados, liberals, and Dead Heads came out in full regalia. Much pot was partook, tie-dye shirts were picked up, and now we can officially confirm that there’s no better place to celebrate this blissful weed lovers’ holiday than San Francisco. If you missed it (or if you got too stoned and forgot), you can still come by through the 28th of April; plus, the entire collection is available starting today in The Hundreds’ Online Shop.

The Hundreds X Grateful Dead :: Lookbook

#, #

This Saturday, 4/20, marks the arrival of The Hundreds X Grateful Dead at The Hundreds flagship stores and authorized retailers. Read on for Bobby’s commentary on the collaboration, and a mini editorial featuring select pieces from the collection. Modeled by Chris aka Jillionaire of Major Lazer and photographed by Rick Rodney.

A timeless American brand, rife with legacy and cultural history, amassing a devout niche following by encouraging grassroots awareness and community. We could be talking about The Hundreds, but we could also be referencing the Grateful Dead.

In 1965, the Northern California rock band set off on a long, strange trip, infusing psychadelia, space rock, jazz, and blues into a hypnotic concoction of music that converted followers around the world. A large part of this cult fandom was by way of the Grateful Dead’s mailing list, by which the band maintained direct communication with their base, disseminating tour information, band happenings, and release dates (not unlike how The Hundreds utilizes the web to speak to our customer); the Grateful Dead were social networkers before the technology or ideology was even imaginable.

Furthermore, the band not only embraced, but supported the live taping of their shows, prompting a subculture to foment around the procurement and trade of this underground music network––Just as, you may think, The Hundreds fans value the brand’s exclusive offerings. The Hundreds partners up with the Grateful Dead in a perhaps unexpected and unpredictable collaboration range of apparel this Spring, but it’s also not hard to see how similarly both creative projects are composed. As with the Grateful Dead, The Hundreds puts the people before the product, drawing our own lines, and pioneering our own subcultural marketplace beyond the traditional path.
