OPPOSITES ATTRACT.

Outside the RVCA offices and warehouse building in Costa Mesa, California.  A beautiful RETNA mural with El Mac:

This is Pat Tenore’s corner office. From his balcony, you have a straight shot of the ocean.  Such a sweet setup:

The RVCA x Erin Wasson campaign has closed but it was a great endeavor while it lasted.

If you thought Pat’s home was well-furnished, this building’s like the Met.  Their entire Artists Network Program is adequately represented within these walls: Dave Choe, Kelsey Brookes, Sage Vaughn, Biskup, Barry McGee, Neckface, LOTS MORE Barry McGee, and so many other established and up-and-coming artists… all amazingly talented in their own right:

A peek inside the sampling/cutting room:

The RVCA Cinelli bike by Barry McGee.  There were something like 50 made and Lance Armstrong bought them ALL.

Some cool Espos and Gonzs around the graphic design wing of RVCA:

The two chevrons in RVCA’s name are a play off of opposites.  For example, just as the brand is heavily incorporated in the arts, it is just as reflective of Pat’s background in mixed martial arts.  In the back of the warehouse is an MMA gym where some of the sport’s heavyweights like BJ Penn and Vitor Belfort come to regularly train.  Pat is also about to fight professionally in the next couple months (explaining his shiner)!

Not surprisingly, even more RETNA.

The gym is awash in placid tones of gray and white, to oppose the meatheaded stereotypes of MMA.

Aaron Rose pays a quick visit to discuss RVCA’s print magazine, ANP Quarterly.  Aaron abides by the rules: No street shoes allowed inside the octagon:

Thanks to Pat for taking the time. I hope the trip was as inspiring for you guys as it was for me.

Pat Tenore is an awesome dude and the founder of a pretty ubiquitous brand in youth culture called RVCA.

One of the attributes which I’ve respected most about RVCA is their support of the arts, something that’s clearly close to Pat’s heart, as evidenced by his collection of original paintings and pieces at his Costa Mesa home.  Like this rare and magnificent canvas by Mr. Cartoon.

Pat and RVCA have backed Dave Choe forever – here in Pat’s living room, a portrait of his kids by the artist:

Keegan Gibbs is one of my favorite photographers:

Of course Pat has a Wallacavage chandelier:

Does anyone have a more prolific RETNA collection than this guy?

Phil Frost:

Some early Neckface and NORM in his oldest son’s room:

The family cats may be the finest art pieces to photograph:

Stopped by the BLISS Magazine offices in Newport Beach and scooped up MADSTEEZ:

and walked directly next door to Bear Flag, which…

…has the best fish tacos I’ve ever eaten in my life. This coming from a guy who lived in San Diego for 4 years, who once drove to Ensenada, Mexico for a fish taco and drove right back.  Yeah I said it.  And don’t forget the Sriracha:

Don’t forget, our 4 flagship locations are currently having a 50% off sale that will run through this weekend:

SWAG.

SWAG. Stuff We All Get.

Well, not all of us. Some of us. Or maybe even one of us.

Jason Markk still has the best sneaker cleaner on the market.  Support a young independent doing his thing:

Bobby and the Tribal crew sent up a buncha stuff, buried deep inside were a few prints from Tribal’s artist collaborations over the years, possibly the most thorough and comprehensive street art collabs of any brand.  Usugrow, OG Abel, and that Shepard Fairey is from 1998.

13th Witness has his own hardcover book out of select Instagram images.  Great idea.  Follow him on Instagram under 13thWitness

And what’s this?  From our Australian friends… I wonder what’s inside….

THE HUNDREDS X FRESHCOTTON 10TH ANNIVERSARY :: VALENZUELA LOW

#, #

The Hundreds is pleased to announce the release of a limited edition Valenzuela Low shoe in collaboration with FreshCotton, celebrating their 10thanniversary.  Only 150 pairs made, the shoes are set to release through the FreshCotton online store, as well as The Hundreds online and flagship locations on Monday, January 30, 2012.

Hailing from Amsterdam, FreshCotton has been the front-runner in supplying Europe with the newest and most rare streetwear fashions since the birth of the company in 2001.  With an enormous online presence, FreshCotton leads in trend watching and originality, spotlighting upcoming and well-established brands that span the globe.

The Hundreds x FreshCotton Valenzuela shoe is the perfect melding of the two companies’ hometowns, featuring traditional Dutch influences and a sleek Los Angeles look.  It is made of premium waxed navy canvas to protect against the harsh weather of The Netherlands, and a nod to the traditional uniform of the Dutch farmer.

The shoe also features Cognac color Nubuck leather, with refined leather lining and lace details referencing modern day Amsterdam.

Every pair is complete with a bandana with The Hundreds Adam Bomb and Amsterdam’s triple X symbol.

PRINTED MATTERS.

As we enter The Hundreds Spring 2012, I’d like to emphasize that our brand lives beyond the soft-goods and online matter.  My background, before apparel, was print and that continues to be an important facet to The Hundreds’ brand experience.

Hassan, here, helped us out in designing and laying out our new Spring and Summer 2012 catalog, which you’ll soon find at all authorized The Hundreds retailers worldwide.  The booklet is a summary of all the core in-line product we’ll be introducing in the first half of this year.  It’s the full album, the entire story:

On February 2nd, The Hundreds Magazine‘s latest issue also hits retailers, as well as our own shops.  This time around, it’s Azealia Banks on the cover of our Music Issue, with further features on collaborators and artists we’re working with in the next year like The Seventh Letter and Don Pendleton.  It’s our fattest and finest issue to date – The Hundreds Magazine is finally coming into its own with this one, much thanks to our Managing Editor, Chelsea:
