SPACE ODYSSEY : 2011

A question Ben and I often get asked.. “Which The Hundreds store is your favorite?

Well, I like each store for differing reasons.  The Hundreds LA has the best scene (RSWD), and of course has the richest history and sentimental value.  The Hundreds New York holds the most substance and credibility; when we opened that store, to say that we have a piece of New York SoHo real estate, we were the proudest of any opening.  The Hundreds Santa Monica is the baby, but is akin to a fine art piece, and has the best design and retail layout.

And The Hundreds San Francisco has the best concept and buildout.  By miles.  Not just of The Hundreds stores, but of all the stores… in the world!

Tony‘s the worst.

Alex is one of the new recruits at THSF.  Aside from looking like a giant homeless Jesus, he’s rather well known in the City for his skateboarding skeelz.

Case in point, the new issue of Lowcard has a 2-page spread with Alex:

He’s a pretty rotten rope-jumper though.

THSF’s Bryan is not bad at jump-roping, which is a good thing or a really embarrassing thing.

Apparently Dorian’s moving to Los Angeles, so we interviewed job applicant John to fill the hole at THSF.  First, we questioned his TH loyalty, then he showed us the Jun Cha x The Hundreds tattoo on his arm, and he had to jump-rope for a half-hour while no one watched.  He’d gotten that far, so we forced him to work the shop the entire day as a “trial run.” At the end of the day, we told him he had passed Phase 1 of the interview process. There are 116 phases.

The Hundreds skate team rider Billy Roper is now an SF resident:

There’ve been some new developments at The Hundreds San Francisco.  For one, the monolith has entered the space (a recurring The Hundreds retail detail), acting as the full-length mirror.

The screen is now embedded into the cave rock, of course still playing ’70s and ’80s era science fiction cinema – Star Wars, Kubrick films, TRON, Planet of the Apes

The sunglasses display is in place.

And we went overboard with the Space Odyssey : 2001 tie-ins.  HAL lights up the window display, as well as…

… a replica of the cockpit from the 2001 shuttle.  Back when the store was being conceptualized in 2007, we wanted it to feel as if we had crash-landed in San Francisco.  I think we’ve finally gotten that point across.

There are some other cracks in the storefront’s rock…

…which have proved an efficient means of freaking out passers-by.

Welcome to The Hundreds San Francisco:

THESE ARE WHAT PATRIOTS LOOK LIKE.

As you are well aware by now, the Occupy Wall Street movement continues to grow and flourish around the United States, and now, the world beyond.  What initially started as a murmur has proliferated into a cacophonous rebel yell, unified by a shared hurt the world suffers under a corporate regime.  That insurgence swelled in downtown San Francisco this afternoon and was represented by these upstanding citizens:

PAINT THE TOWN.

Nightfall in San Francisco.  View from the Clift:

First stop, the renowned Beer Fridays at Benny Gold‘s shop.  I spent half of my time playing with Rumi and Levi, and the other half talking to brand upstart Bear Witness.

Afterwards, the THSF crew dinner at Brazilian steakhouse Espetus.  Everyone’s putting on the polite face as Tony tells the same story for the 83rd time.

We caught a couple drinks at the Owl Tree, then fortuitously ran into Errol and Eric with the Nike Sportswear and marketing team, as well as Samantha from Fruition (who’s launching her project with UNDFTD SF tonight).  They’re all in town for Nike’s big race and we followed them to the club. Then rejoined the crew over at Delirium (of course) where I took the couch (of course) and Billy Roper got us Tecate and we listened to Tony talk (of course).

The End.

WARMING UP.

#

Ben and I just got into the Bay. For the first time, I can honestly say it’s pretty warm in San Francisco.  Things are heating up, and SF is out in droves this weekend.

Our Code wallet with Hex is now available.  They’re going faster than expected at each of our shops, you can also buy yours here online.

It’s always nice to see Kattya.  She’s THSF family. Her pet boutique Cheeko B is just down the street.

These guys are from LA on a weekender.  Dude on the left couldn’t decide between a red or green Code wallet. I told him to get the Christmas color: just buy green AND red.

And of course, first stop, right up Post Street to Pearl’s Burgers.

By the way, Pearl’s is opening a new location right down the block in Union Square. Looks bigger and badder and burger.

San Francisco, as a city, statistically has disproportionately more women than men.  This Sunday the odds turn even higher in the guys’ favor because of the Nike Women’s Marathon.  There are packs of radiant, physically fit, Lulu Lemoned, gazelles on every corner in this city right now.  By the way, TOTAL coincidence that we chose this weekend to be here.

Really.

THE HUNDREDS | HEX

To coincide with the launch of the iPhone 4s tomorrow, we are introducing the The Hundreds | HEX Code wallet, which fits both the iPhone 4 and 4s.

Available in three primary colors, RED, GREEN, and BLUE (RGB), the Code Wallet features an embossed genuine leather cover in JAGS™ pattern and signature The Hundreds “Adam Bomb” graphic printed on the interior of the protective iPhone 4/4S bed. An exterior cash pocket offers a place to keep bills, and three slots tucked inside the front cover of the wallet allow for easy storage of credit cards and ID. An elastic closure keeps things tight and secure, resulting in a slim profile wallet that won’t bulk up pockets or bags.

The Code wallet is hitting THLA, THSF, THNY, and THSM tomorrow morning, Friday, October 14th, as well as right here in our online shop and HEX‘s online store.

GO WITH THE FLOW.

Anybody catch Dom on the BET Hip-Hop Awards the other night?  In fact, the only independent artist showcased on his round of the Cypher.

Tide’s keepin’ cool under pressure.

Have you heard that ghost story about the guy who’s at his desk, and then a creepy woman walks by his window and asks for directions, and after she leaves he remembers that he’s on the second floor?

That’s immediately what I thought of when Scotty dropped in unannounced on our meeting: Scotty is a creepy woman.

Stoooops.

Natalia Brutalia’s (MEOW) second signature t-shirt is now available through her personal website.  If you buy one of the limited tees, she’ll write you a note.  If you tell her I sent you, then she’ll write you a death threat.
