GAAAAAARFIELD!!!

#

Introducing the first of three Garfield comic strips introducing our very own Adam Bomb as the newest character to the Garfield universe.  Note that Jim Davis has drawn the strip in the retro Garfield style of the ’80s…

Also note that High Snobiety has your first look at The Hundreds x Garfield collection, along with an interview where I explain the narrative behind the collaboration.  Click HERE to read all about it (Interview begins on page 5).

On the tails of the first DeLorean collaboration, with some incredible brand called The Hundreds… You saw it here first, folks:

The DeLorean x Nike 6.0 Dunks…

Mimicking the DMC-12′s stainless steel body, the DeLorean Dunk has a matte silver, no-sew constructed upper.  One of the smartest details are the bottom eyestays, which are detached like the DeLorean DMC-12′s gullwing doors.

Not to mention the outsoles, which are inspired by the car’s tail lights.

The tongue is stamped with “BELFAST,” referencing the original DeLorean factory in Belfast, Ireland.

And the lines on the rear are supposed to be the DMC-12′s rear window shades.

Now this is what you call a collaboration.  Backed with a proper story, substance, and a really nice-looking design to tie it all together.  One of the best shoe collaborations in recent memory, kudos Nike 6.0.

While I have your attention, I’m gonna turn it to some other cool flow I’ve gotten recently.  How about TOMIC Energy Shots.. I love the disclaimer discouraging people from drinking more than 1 bottle at a time.

Slick sent these over a while ago, but they are some of my favorite toys of the year.  Slick x Bounty Hunter.

Joe sent me some of these Nike printed booties.

My buddy Josh Madden creative-directed the Tank Mondrian for Aerial7 headphones, inspired by the artwork of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian.

Ben’s friends have invented the most “Why didn’t I think of that?!” contraption ever. The Salsabol: The world’s perfect salsa bowl that maximizes the amount of chip/salsa storage without the messy spillover.  Now if only you could skate it.

We get a lot of contributions from young start-up brands. I wish I could post them all, but .. well I guess I could, but I just don’t feel like it. So, sorry.

RADLANDS sent over all kinds of rad, land-related stuff. How apropos.

Safari Brand hand-paints t-shirts. I can respect the amount of work and time that went into these tees.

And Tools of the Trade sent over a hefty box of all kinds of artist-related goodies. I dug the jigsaw puzzles.  There were some cool Ron English ones but Ben and I already took them to our homes to work on them. Buff Monster playing cards as well.  Visit TOTT’s website for more.

RAP UP.

#, #, #

Last week was a bit of a blur.  It started off in Boston, which was enjoyable if not just for the seasons.

Then back to L.A., a couple days onset at the Warner Bros. Studios lot for a phenomenally big-deal production that I’m not at liberty to talk about, so let’s just move on…

It was Natalia’s birthday, in case you forgot. Lauren prefers her Natalia in 3 dimensions.

All Natalia wanted for her birthday was my favorite fallback cake: the Paradise Cake from Kings Hawaiian.

The 10 Deep pop-up shop popped up inside Hall of Fame recently.  Scott and the crew did an amazing job, not only with the presentation, but with the range.  Hopefully this means we can look forward to more 10 Deep stores? (nudge nudge)

The Fairfax sensation sweeping the nation, and hotter than any clothing brand on the block right now: Tyler the Creator and the OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) crew.  They’ve been skulking around the street for years now (3 years ago at our Block Party), running Reserve, wrecking lives, and generating all sorts of bedlam and mayhem.  Now they’ve got Pitchfork in their pocket, a tour through London, New York, and upcoming LA that sold out in mere hours… the media, the industry, and the streets are lining these kids up as hip-hop’s big answer, if they don’t kill you or each other first.

Over on Rosewood… Business as usual at The Hundreds Los Angeles.

Public Label is fully stocked and performing as planned.  Seems like the Public Label customer in L.A. is especially drawn to the fleece and jackets in the collection. But hint hint, the denim is the sleeper hit.

Taryn (RVCA) is fully stocked in my spaceship.  Speaking of RVCA, congrats to BJ Penn on that win this weekend.  BJ Penn NO KA OI.

Now that I got that out of the way, get ready for some big news on The Hundreds’ blog.. you’ll just have to wait and see.

GOOD JEANS.

Saturday was the big collaboration denim release between The Hundreds stores and Primitive.  I didn’t get up to Primitive in time to catch the signing, but there were still lots of hangers-on milling about.  Big thanks to P-Rod and the Primitive crew for working with us on our very first pair of stretch denim. Remember, the partnership isn’t over quite yet, there’s one last surprise dropping the day after Christmas.

FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE.

Right next to USC, on Grand Ave. in East L.A., there’s a community-centered marketplace called Mercado La Paloma. 3655 S. Grand Ave.

Mercado is one of those under-the-radar spots in L.A., but it’s not just about the insane selection of ethnic eateries.  Mercado was established to restore and aid the surrounding community, providing jobs and other opportunities for local residents.

There’s Thai food here, a Oaxacan kiosk with the bomb mole and juices, Mexican, Persian food, and so on…

Perhaps the most known spot is Mo-Chica, which serves select Peruvian dishes.

It can be a little pricey for the lunchtime crowd, but hey, it’s worth it.  Today I got Arroz con Mariscos (Rice with Seafood), but you can’t really go wrong here.  There was so much awesome seafood on my plate, calamari, shrimp, oysters, fish, probably a sea horse and Nemo as well. They might as well call it Aquarium con Mariscos.

They also have the traditional purple corn tea that can solve all the world’s problems.

If you’ve ever been to Peru, wherever you go, there are peddlers selling these crazy corns where the kernels are the size of your head.  Anyways, they were in my salad (without the peddlers).

This is what Pat got.  I want to swim in that sauce.

INTRODUCTIONS.

Maybe you remember that earlier this year, I journeyed to a small town named Muncie, Indiana, just about an hour and a half outside of Indianapolis.  I wasn’t there for long, but I wasn’t there without purpose.  You see, Muncie’s known for a few things, it’s home to Ball State University and it carries a rich tradition of prep sports, but most importantly..

Muncie is the home of Garfield.

and furthermore, the home of Garfield’s creator, Jim Davis.

and so, our conversation began.
