IT’S PAC DIV.

Warp Japan Magazine came through The Hundreds LA on Rosewood to shoot Pac Div previewing the upcoming Fall season of The Hundreds.

pacdiv_thehundreds

I got a lotta Pac Div news for you, so pay attention.  Pac Div’s headed out on tour next week with Kid Cudi and Asher Roth, so keep an eye out for L.A.’s premiere rap trio in your town.  Their new album, Church League Champions, can be downloaded HERE. (Worth it. Trust me.)  And lastly, here’s the final cut of the music video for the single off Church League Champions, “MAYOR.”

It’s Pac Div.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY : FIGURES.

It’s 2am. Is it too late for a Flashback Friday post?  This one’s dedicated to the iconic cultural figureheads that we have the pleasure of calling our friends.

I took this shot while Ben and I were down in DJ AM‘s basement a few years ago.  The only things this dude has more of than rare kicks are records.  Just stacks and bookcases, end-to-end, with the finest vinyl.. AM, last of a dying breed.

Pieter, better known to the art world as Parra, was visiting us from Amsterdam years ago when we were still working out the Rosewood studio.  He was in L.A. for a week, and would skate over everyday to just lounge around in our space and buy vintage t-shirts at local Melrose shops.  One day he saw this dude skating across the street and had to catch the flick.  Guy Mariano.

This might be the worst photo of Futura ever.  We were grabbing dinner at LaLa’s Argentine food that night.  But now that I think of it, I think either Timmy or Tab were fooling around with my camera, so I’ll blame this shot on them.

flashbackfriday3_thehundreds7

This was in Hiroshi Fujiwara‘s studio in Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan.  Hiroshi (seated) was showing us his fixed sessions on DVD.

flashbackfriday3_thehundreds31

Speaking of studios, this is Alyasha Owerka-Moore‘s workspace.  Look at all that inspiration.  I’m never sure how Aly ever gets any work done in this corner.  It’s like the Eye Candy Emporium.

Stash and Scotty were out in the parking lot, filling up the car with a little steam session, when Stash decided to give me an autograph.

Usugrow is still one of my favorite artists.

…as is ‘Toons.  I mean, I’m enough of a Mr. Cartoon fan to keep a piece of his time on my arm forever.

CURRENT EVENTS.

Aaron stopped by TH HQ to remind us that the Agenda Trade Show is fast approaching, Wednesday and Thursday!  This time around, Agenda’s locking up Huntington Beach for the event, with street/skate’s finest brands participating.  We’re talking everyone from Obey, RVCA, and LRG to Crooks, Huf, Mighty Healthy, and of course us, The Hundreds.  See you there or be stuck at another one of those irrelevant dinosaur trade shows.

Todd and Tofer are the tag-team behind Plain Gravy and are hosting the BAILOUT BBQ this Saturday from noon to 6 here in L.A.  They’ll be shelling out Plain Gravy goods for up to 80% off, CASH ONLY.  Even our very own DJ THEE MIKE B will be on the sets.  1425 Mccadden Place, ya heard.

KEEPING PERSPECTIVE.

I never really understood architecture photography. I figured that the artist was the one who had created the work, and the photographer was merely documenting someone else’s masterpiece. But then Julius Shulman’s portfolio changed my mind, showing me how a photographer’s perspective can actually influence the art and medium itself.

Modern architecture photographer Julius Shulman died today at the age of 98.  This guy led an impressive career, chronicling California contemporary home design in a way that impacted architecture forever.  Read more about Shulman’s life and work in the LA Times.

Eric Bricker recently completed a documentary on Shulman, narrated by Dustin Hoffman, that is set to screen this August. You can learn more about VISUAL ACOUSTICS here.

In the meantime, KCET’s Shelter had a great feature on Shulman a couple years back. You can watch that through Youtube here:

SANTA MONICA AIRLINES.

Normally I like to reserve product news for The Feed and keep it off this blog, but this one was too good to pass.  Klotz just emailed me these shots of an extremely limited collection of SMA t-shirts, which are now available at Reserve on Fairfax and BoundlessNY.

Santa Monica Airlines was founded in 1978 by Skip Engblom, godfather of the Z-Boys.  This brand was perhaps one of the most influential in skate history, having taken such names as Natas Kaupas, Jason Adams, Julien Stranger, Jim Thiebaud, and Israel Forbes under its wing (no pun intended).

Julien Stranger’s part in SCS/SMA’s “A Reason for Living”:

as well as Natas’:

Karma Tsocheff also rode for SMA at one point. I used to love watching this dude skate:

There are also a couple photo tees to round out the line, and complement the theme of Dogtown culture.  The first is a shot of P.O.P. and the second, Skip.  Both photographed by Anthony Friedkin.

SCREECHING HALT.

Na-kel lugged his new flatbar over to Rosewood. Just in time for this poodlehead to run it over in the Rover.

Na-kel’s mouth got busy and some choice words were exchanged. I’ll leave it up to your imagination.

FIRST QUARTER.

25off

YOU’RE ALL JUST A BUNCH OF FOLLOWERS.

twitter_thehundreds

Are you ready for another Twitter post?  What, you haven’t heard enough about it from CNN or your garrulous morning news anchors or your weird uncle?  (At what point did it become okay for young people to follow the exact same trends as old people?)

You know when you’re out at dinner and you’re seated next to a table of 8 divorced wives babbling on about everything and nothing, all at the same time?  And then you realize that no one’s actually listening to each other, they just like hearing themselves speak?  And once in a while, when they get affirmation that someone concurs with them, they feel justified and righteous in their babble?

Twitter is kinda like that.

And you know how in American History X, Ed Norton’s character is confronted by his neo-Nazi hate in a moment of self-reflection, and realizes after all these years that racism really hasn’t contributed positively to his life in any way?

Twitter is kinda like that too.

Twitter is like a racist divorcee.  But for those of you who like racist divorcees, I wanted to plug The Hundreds’ official Twitter page. If you’re a Tweeter and want to get Twupdates on all The Hundreds product/store/event news, then ADD us HERE.

As for me, I’m officially calling it quits today.  It was fun while it lasted, but actually, nah, it really wasn’t.  Wait, what’s this?  Verizon’s finally offering an international Blackberry with a camera? So I can finally TWITPIC ??!!!! I’ll BRB.

P.S.  I’m not the only one who’s over the Twit Parade.  Read Yasi’s sentiments HERE.

RECORD OF WRONGS.

One of my biggest pet peeves is bad spelling/grammar/writing in general. Like when people write “loose” when they really mean “lose.” Too bad half of our staff could “loose” to a native Cambodian infant in a Spelling Bee.

Our Senior Graphic Designer Benjie might be the worst of them all. The things this guy writes on Instant Messenger, it’s as if he’s sodomizing Spelling with a pine cone.  He also has the tendency to say the darndest things behind a computer screen.  Here are just some of his greatest hits (Thank God for the screen+grab function).
