The interesting, perhaps not so coincidental, thing about the The Hundreds San Francisco staff is how musically involved they are. Almost all of them are practitioners in the sonic realm, like Alexander Spit and DJ Micah Aza. Speaking of Micah, his new group CRAZY MOB debuted tonight at Space Gallery here in San Francisco (with Al opening) and so Dorian, Alex, and I were there to show our support.
Cheers.

Tim (Cool Hunting), Jeff (High Snobiety), and Blake are the architects of the Cool universe.

Gomez Warren IV and DJ Excel are the ultimate odd couple… AUDIBLE AGENT. They stopped by to watch the Spike Lee x Kobe Bryant film that ESPN sent us early. Unfortunately, it sucked. But Audible Agent doesn’t! You can just hear Gomez command, “Twitter that.”

Nigel filmed and edited PROOF, a skateboard DVD by Paul Rodriguez. The video features parts with the collective crew, P.Rod, Torey Pudwill, and even our very own Carlos Zarazua.

Adam Bomb makes an appearance as well,.. after all, we did sponsor the film.

Josh and Tofer join us for lunch at Fisherman’s Outlet. Tofer’s black Eggman pendant (handcrafted by Han Cholo) is NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE HERE. Only 60 bones! That’s like 4 plates of giant buttery prawns.

Adam Tensta, Sweden’s hip-hop hope, perusing the racks at The Hundreds Los Angeles.

A few weeks ago, Marc here (McGraw-Hill) emailed me, inquiring about using our story for a high school textbook on entrepreneurship. Our bio would be 1 of 6 celebrity features, including the founders of Youtube, Facebook, and Rock Band/Guitar Hero. Sure, I guess we’re of that caliber (note: cheeky sarcasm). So they came by this afternoon to shoot us at the shop.

Forget the Fame. It’s all about:

Giving bootlegs the boot.

Go America.

Putting the “TH” in Thrilla Gorilla.

Cynicism is a virtue.

And fade out…

The title’s misleading. This is no Initech. This is Red Bull‘s headquarters in Santa Monica, California. Scotty, Ben and I had a meeting here this morning, and the first thing that caught my eye was the architecture. This installation cascades through the entire building and is totally skate-able.

Josh is our man here at Red Bull. Suited up for Game Day! Why does it look like Oren and Ben are about to violate him in the worst way?

Movie theater. Whatevs, no big deal.

No TPS reports here. No “case of the Mondays.” No stapler.

Gym! I know many of you work in places where you have amenities like this, but it blows me away. The closest thing we got is the Perfect Push-up.

This is the secret room at Red Bull. It’s between offices, hidden trap door, up your butt and around the corner. Gaming stations, entertainment, stripper pole, Chuck E. Cheese skeeball. 2 of those was a lie.

Surprise surprise.

Red Bull’s even got an entire recording division in the back, studios, editing rooms, etc. Goes to show that the energy drink catapulted the brand into different media formats and cultural arenas. Anthrax was just in here recording.

Show ‘em your “O” face.

Saturday night, I headed out to the ninth planet of Pomona to catch one of my favorite hardcore bands in human history, Undertow, at The Glass House. John Pettibone et al. destroyed.. too bad I missed the first half of the set because I was sent on a wild goose chase for a photo-pass that I had initially been told didn’t exist (!?!?). But I digress. It was still worth the hour drive to catch the final numbers from the rafters.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the work this band put forward, plus all the other Seattle hardcore units our friends played in like Trial, Botch, and Harkonen. If you’re at all interested in their music, you must pick up EVERYTHING, the essential Undertow off Revelation.
As the night waned on, Zach reminded me that live music and photography are all fine and dandy, but the real reason we grew up going to these shows was to hang out with the homeys. From The Barn (Riverside) to the Troubadour (L.A.), Koos Cafe (o.g. in Santa Ana) to the Showcase (Corona, R.I.P.), we’d skate during the day, hit up a show at night, pick up a couple ‘zines for the road, then head to Baker’s or Del Taco for a BRC burrito on the late-night. Rinse. Repeat. This is how I spent my youth. I’m twice the age now, but it’s like I never left.

Brothers from other mothers. Josh aka DEPH (To Die For) and Zach (Zach Cordner). Josh and I did everything we could to NOT talk about our careers in the apparel industry. Zach and I talked all about his new band with Benny Wei, 11:11. LISTEN.

I guess these would be my sisters from another mother, then. Long time no see, Jill and Chrissy.

Jon Halperin and his lady, Sarah. Jon runs The Glass House, and that’s no easy task. Neither is wearing a David Archuleta shirt at a hardcore show, you gotta dig the humor.

I saw a few TH pieces floating around the crowd, and that was super rewarding. A lot of people also dapped the t-shirt I was wearing, and had questions about it. Daniel here was one of the curious folk, he has a band called Northern Towns. LISTEN.

I knew I’d find Andrew here. He used to trailblaze with Strife, now has a new band (of which I’m blanking on at the moment, SORRY Andrew). But he’s also the kingpin behind Tradition. We talked about Dom Kennedy’s new album, as well as Diz Gibran’s. Hip-hop talk at a punk rock show is rad, like eating steak with sushi at a Vegas buffet.

Like old times, friends. PK represent! (You can’t knock the Blood In / Blood Out handshake).
