THE FINGER.
Fresh off his second-place overall at DC’s King of LA, TH rider Ricky Webb, and teammate Rashad Turner in the house.
Rashad flexes his war wounds from the weekend. That doesn’t look right.
Ricky wants in, but his ding is weaksauce. Or maybe he just wanted to introduce me to the bird.
I know you’ve been missing Big Bert lately. We certainly have. Unfortunately, he’s holed up in the clink for a while, but we did hear from him today, by way of snail mail. Along with a custom piece by one of his cellmates. Trip out Bert! Keep cool, brother, we’ll see you soon enough.

CROSSING BORDERS.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, the Boarder Control pack is now in our online shop (LIMITED ADDITIONS), along with the limited Livestock x eS x The Hundreds tees.
LOS ANGELES KINGS.
TH done good. DC’s King of Los Angeles am skateboarding contest took place this weekend, and our own Ray Maldonado took 1st place at Lockwood, scoring $1,000. Meanwhile, The Hundreds’ Ricky Webb nabbed a strong 2nd place overall. Here are some shots of Ricky and Rashad courtesy of the DC website.

THE KIDS ARE ALL RITE.
Right on. Rite Aid.
Benjie: “What’re you gonna get, Pat?”
Patrick: “An aluminum bat to crack your head open. Ho.”
(Benjie runs off, stage right, arms flailing, sobbing like an orphan girl)
Am I the only one who confused this canister of body soap for a bag of Doritos?
For the unknowing, Halloween is the greatest time of the year to visit drugstores in America. The 24-hour markets are decked with the most bizarre holiday paraphernalia, aisles of personal hygiene goods accentuated with glowing skeletons, cobwebbed broomsticks, and weirdo craze like this:
It’s also a haven for all the candy-lovers and cavity-infested Ritalin babies.
Brien and Vito, Point Breakin’, 2008 styles.
Benjie the Beastmaster.
Okay fine, I’ll take a photo of myself for the blog.

STATIC.
Anyone watch the final Presidential debates on Wednesday night?
Educate yourselves and remember to VOTE. If you haven’t registered yet, DO SO NOW (if in California).
Dominick’s (Brooklyn Projects) big birthday is right around the corner. It’s hard to believe that he’s only 26.
Ben and the rest of the crew have been breaking in our new eS shoes, dropping this Saturday at The Hundreds and Livestock stores. Funk sole, brother.
We lured DJ Mike B downtown to chat it up about an upcoming collaborative project and 90210. Yeah, you heard me.

AWESOME.
Scotty and I weathered the 2-hour drive to North County, San Diego this morning. Crisp air, framed by cascading ocean blue, seagulls, flip-flops, and tanktops. This is the Promised Land.
Ain’t no panickin’ down at Pannikin’. The relaxed atmosphere in this sleepy cafe is only interrupted by the warm smell of fresh cooking. Heads up, the waitresses don’t shave their armpits. Don’t stare.
We grabbed lunch with Tanya Otero and professional snowboarder, Todd Richards. This man is a living legend, folks. I love my job.
You can catch some of Todd’s footage in this DC Mtn Lab clip:
Speaking of loving jobs, a couple years back, Todd and fellow pro Tara Dakides started a small creative operation that is big on fun and passion, Omatic Snowboards, in the face of conglomerate snowboard houses that currently dominate the industry. You’re pretty much looking at the entire operation here at their Encinitas base. A declaration of independents.
As far as brands go, Omatic is not too unlike ourselves. Their commitment to quality product, brand integrity, and core customer, is only outweighed by their tongue-in-cheek humor. No one is safe from their satirical snubs, not even themselves.
With the beach just a block away, these other boards come in handy throughout the workday. Todd had to excuse himself after lunch, he was running late for his appointment with Surf.
As long as we were in Encinitas, we had to run by UNIV and catch up with Mirko. We found him out back in the Alphanumeric office. With his hand in so many burgeoning companies, it’s pretty amazing that he still finds time to work on his latest and greatest project, his newborn son.

BOARDER CONTROL.
The best collaborative projects arise from building on creative visions with like-minded friends. So working on a shoe-pack with skate-shoe mainstay eS and Vancouver-based boutique Livestock was a clear no-brainer. Keeping that U.S./Canada theme in mind, the aptly-titled “Boarder Control” pack features Livestock’s take on the classic Theory mid, and our re-appropriation of the Square One.

When formulating ideas to drive this project, Garry and I knew that since we were going to release 2 shoes in a single box unit, we had to propose a partnership that would not only make sense visually, but also in tune with brand integrity. So we went with a starkly contrasting color scheme, he forged ahead with a popped-out hiking-boot-inspired sneaker, with the metal hook and laces to match.
This is our eS shoe. The concept being that if I’m gonna get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to design one of my favorite skate-shoes, might as well take everything I’ve ever known about skate-shoes and put them into one sneaker. So you got the preferred fabrics from the golden era of skate (suede, canvas, full-grain leather) locked up with the new generation of tricked-out composites (3M, ballistic nylon, faux carbon fiber). All streamlined with a monochromatic black, the only subtle texture is provided by the differing materials.
Along with select skate retailers worldwide, there are 500 boxsets being split between The Hundreds and Livestock retail stores on Saturday, October 18th. On October 20th, they will hit online. Oh, and you’re drooling.

DARKNESS FALLS.
Late night at the office tonight, Ben and I meandered over to J-town on the afterhours mish.
Of course, the Archrival folks were lampin’ shopside, working on beers and banter.
When in Japantown, do as the Japanese do. Next door to Archrival is Hama Sushi. Between this and Sushi Gen down the street, you’re looking at some of the freshest fish in town. Our sushi chef, A, recognized us from something he saw on TV, and has a line himself, called Real Deal. Take that knife, for example. Now that’s the real deal.
Berra invited me down to The Berrics tonight for a small private gig with local indie psychedelic band Darker My Love. It was a great excuse to experience some really good live music. And to trip out with Platt on some stoner rock.
