HAHN THE COLLECTOR.

#

Remember Shel Silverstein’s poem, Hector the Collector?  Joe Hahn (Linkin Park / SURU) is kinda like that, except his “bent-up nails and ice cream sticks” are some of the rarest art, action figures, and movie memorabilia in the universe.  Like these Craola paintings.  Next to his home’s elevator door.

I see some of Shepard Fairey’s fine work.

Dez Einsewell.

Pushead.

On and on.. for days…

Kinda awesome.

I think this is Rostarr’s.

That’s the Robocop gun.

Dave Choe, Jimmy Choe, and Eric Nakamura (Giant Robot) came over past midnight, after a round of Bonchon chicken and karaoke on Sawtelle.  They were pretty spent, but the grand tour of Joe’s palatial estate was more than inspiring.  So much art, that now it’s just amassing on the floor, in bathrooms, kitchen cabinetry, stacked up in the garage.. I guess it’s a good problem to have.

Eames chair.  It’s a real one.

I’ve actually never sat in one of these before.  Once I was down, it was hard to get up.  Nice Usugrow collection there (!!!!!!!!!!!)

Yup, he’s got it.  Saber’s woodwork.

The Medicom corner.

You’d be smiling too.

I think if you just walk through this bathroom, you automatically get a little cleaner.

The toilet’s getting in the way.

I think Joe referred to this as the “Halo” room.  As in, this room was built with the sole purpose of playing HALO INSIDE OF IT.

Out of all that, this is what everyone bugged out on the most.  You can print the entire internet with that beast.

And then we found the studio.  Stay tuned for what happened next…

DRESS TO IMPRE$$.

#, #

Taz Arnold (Sa-Ra) held his event, The Me$$age, tonight at &Still.

FYI, I ate a bucket of Yogurtland’s Butterfinger creamery with DJ Gomez Warren IV before we got here.  Just in case you were keeping tabs.

Adam Bomb, C-San, and co.

So there was a BEST DRESSED contest, which Taz asked me (The Hundreds), Lanie (Hellz Bellz and pictured here with Bam), Rohan Marley, Mega (Huf), and Dr. Romanelli to judge.

You know Bailey was stylin’ on everyone.  I gave him a solid 11 out of 10.

…which eventually led to the crown:

The Insomniacs from Sactown.

Afterwards, I stopped by Foreign Family’s Halloween party over in K-town.  This was impressive:

Johnny Punishment, Phil (Ludwig), Justin and Derek (Attic).  Justin’s also an actor, and plays Eric Yorkie’s character in the upcoming film adaptation of Twilight, plus he’s got another project in the pipeline with Harrison Ford and Sean Penn. Derek plays the Korean Joe Pesci in everyday life.

A CROSS COUNTRY.

#

Artist David Choe and his older brother Jimmy stopped by yesterday afternoon.  Right in time for The Hundreds 5TH Artist Series drop.

So the story goes like this.  About a month ago, Jimmy set off from San Jose on a cross-country trip where he wheatpasted Dave’s Obama posters in every red state he could find.  He got a kinda positive response from most of middle America, but Florida was apparently a hotbed of hate.

And on his way back towards Southern California, he had to swing through Vegas and “skyhook” (see The Dark Knight) Dave from a weeklong sesh at the gambling tables.  The two then drove straight here, curbside at The Hundreds.

If you’ve seen these up in your town, now you know the who/how/where/what.  As for why?  ”We just don’t want McCain to win.”

Back down the Super Mario pipe.

Rosie endured the entire 30-day van-ride also.  Good girl.

THE HUNDREDS FOOTWARE INTRODUCES…

#

The “Johnson Mid-Top.”

The Hundreds Footware‘s debut project, landing in select TH accounts throughout this week, and instore at THLA and THSF this Thursday morning at 11am.

The design inspiration behind the Johnson is an amalgamation of 4 Cali-centric lifestyle shoes, from all ends of the subculture spectrum.  Funneled down into a cohesive, unique silhouette that emanates a classic, timeless simplicity.  Our initial offering is constructed of suede and nubuck leathers, with a JAGS-embossed gumsole, and vulcanized sole for the sake of comfort.  Accented with a silver top lace-hole and tonal foxing.

Without further ado..

FROM THE SHADOWS.

#

When the world thinks of Santa Monica, I’m sure they conjure visions of beach-balls, bikinis, and blondes. But in this end of SM, it’s anything but.  As I cruised down a 1-mile stretch of Pico this afternoon, law enforcement was rounding up 3 separate situations.

And right in the thick of things is the studio/gallery of tattoo artist Jun Cha.

Jun is a Korean-American homeboy from around the way, but on a worldwide scale, all eyes are on him to shape the future of fineline tattoo art.  He first picked up drawing at age 2 and 4 years ago, started tattooing under the guidance of the masters: Baby Ray, Jose Lopez, and Mr. Cartoon, who have all taken him under their wing to prime and primp the next generation of raw talent.

Oh, and I think I forgot to mention one thing.  Jun is 19 years old.

Check the progress on Art’s thigh.  No pain, no gain.

Here’s some more of the man’s repertoire along Art’s leg.

Jun himself is sleeved with symbolism.  Toons has got the right arm, Jose on the other, and Baby Ray takes the leg.  Now that’s what I call an homage.

As Jun, Art, and I spent this early evening rapping about, there are a million great artists in this world, but only a few end up establishing a name for themselves.  The vast majority either lose focus, determination, or passion along their journey, and that can degrade any art, no matter how exceptional it is.  Fortunately, Jun’s character and work ethic hold steadfast, and his art, well it speaks for itself.  In the front room, the walls are plastered with flow charts, mission statements, and inspiration boards for all of his intended goals in life.

Just a heads-up for all you lazy slowpokes: He’s left little room for failure.  Keep up.

Art points out an early Estevan Oriol photograph…

.. of himself, 10 years prior.

I’d like to bring more of Jun’s blossoming career to light, and raise awareness on his persona and talent, so expect to see some more in-depth coverage over time.

Onward.
