VOTE OR DIE.

The online ramp-up to our inclusion in Inc. Magazine’s30 UNDER 30 : America’s Coolest Young Entrepreneurs” article is now online HERE. Ben and I took the #13 and #14 spots over tech wizards, financial geniuses, and corporate megalomaniacs, which is pretty hilarious, considering the last time I wore a tie was this past never ever ever.

This is your chance to make it even more ridiculous, YOU can actually vote for your favorite 30 UNDER 30 honoree HERE. Right now, some guy who named his company COLLEGE HUNKS HAULING JUNK (NOT a gay porn video) is in the lead. Even the 12-year-old is catching up to us. C’mon TH heads, let ‘em know.

Oh yeah, for some reason, they made it so you have to vote for either Ben or I, which has erupted into a huge rift here in the office. Technically, Ben’s disallowing me from using the blog to push you guys to VOTE FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, so I’ll play fair. Vote for Ben if you prefer sucky things Vote for Me, Potato, Puh-tah-toe.

P.S. I figured you’d rather look at a picture of the #10 candidate who started a lingerie business instead of our fat faces.

ONE-SHOP STOP : TRADITION

Okay, I’m gonna break the rules here to catch up on two ONE-SHOP STOP features in a row. So here we go with a Back-to-Back, starting off with our fifth The Hundreds stockist shout-out, TRADITION, based locally in Westlake Village, California:

Tired of making the drive from the Valley and beyond into Los Angeles to pick up the newest in streetwear and sneakers? Well then, Tradition is for you. Located in the suburbs of Westlake Village, Tradition caters to fashion, sneaker, and art enthusiasts from the Valley and the 805.

Tradition opened their doors in November of 2006. Owners Andrew Kline and Jason Gaines, were previously buyers at fashion hotspot Fred Segal, before partnering to open Tradition. Sharing a mutual respect for street culture and lifestyle influencing factors, the pair opened Tradition – a high-end streetwear boutique for men and women that specializes in hard to find sneakers, apparel and accessories.

Tradition carries a strong line-up of apparel brands such as Crooks & Castles, Rogue Status, The Hundreds, Diamond Supply Co., Stussy, Fresh Jive, 10 Deep, Akomplice, and Rebel 8, as well as their own Tradition brand. They also stock footwear from Nike, Vans Vault, PF Flyers, and Converse. Women need not feel left out, because Tradition carries a wide variety of clothing from Hellz Bellz, Stussy, Insight, and 10 Deep exclusively for the ladies.

Tradition hosts bi-monthly art events, and has featured the works of Derek Albeck, Axis, J. Bannon, Eyeone, Marco Zamora, as well as a long list of up and comers.

Recent collaborations with Mr. Cartoon, Soul Assassins, Dalek, Undrcrwn, Axis, and Super Rad Toys are just a hint at what’s to come from Tradition. Upcoming collaborations with New Era as well as a few others are sure to get a big buzz on the streets. Expect big things in 2008!

ONE-SHOP STOP : NEXT

Our fourth ONE-SHOP STOP feature, letting you know about one of our select The Hundreds accounts somewhere in the world, is on Next, based in Cleveland, Ohio:

Northeast Ohio based retail clothing company Next is an OG when it comes to street fashion. Founded in Cleveland in 1997,  they led the urban wear market helping brands like Sean John, Akademiks, and Phat Farm get off the ground. Around 2004, Next owners Rob Rosenthal and Steve Silver noticed a new trend emerging on the scene- skate and street wear inspired fashions and companies popping up all around the country.  With an eye on the soon to be coined “streetwear” movement, Next began to develop a new type of store catering to the sub culture of the urban crowd, with a more stylish, refined, and edgy look. Urbane rather than Urban. Enter Next, the street boutique in Beachwood Place.

Since Next Beachwood’s inception, Cleveland has added energy to the streetwear movement, fanning the fire of style across the midwest in the form of local indie labels and sneaker and clothing boutiques popping up around the city. Owners Robert Rosenthal and Steve Silver believe the culture of streetwear still needs nourishment in Ohio, and we are out to put a fresh tee on everyone’s back and a crisp sneaker on everyone’s foot.

REALLY VIRTUAL.

When you’re home sick, (not homesick, just sick, at home) there’s nothing better than skate vids to get you through the chicken noodle soup, trade-school commercials, and “I Love Lucy” reruns. Here’s my favorite hooky helper of all time. Even after 15 years, I’ve still memorized every line (skated and spoken), every casper and darkslide, all the metal, all the Hiero, I can even name every head in the “Friends” section:

Some more on VIDEO DAZE.

OVERCOME.

#

As I flew in from my flight tonight, my sole concern was making it home safely to my family and life here in Los Angeles.  But as soon as the wheels touched the runway, and I turned my Blackberry on, all selfish worries dissipated as I was barraged with messages notifying me about the plane crash in Georgia.

Adam has always been a good friend of The Hundreds.  He graciously helped Ben and I back when we started this company, welcoming us into his home for an early Chronicle (back when he barely knew us), inviting us to party alongside his set at a New York club (although we were [still are] nobodies), rocking our gear as he DJ’d around the world (when he had boxes of cooler gear sent to him on the daily), and even contributing to some early TH promotional shots (pure benevolence, I’m presuming).

On the same accord, we have never known Travis and Chris too familiarly, although Travis and I grew up in the same scene in the same hometown.  But as many are aware, our circles overlap, as we share mutual space in youth culture, friends, and associations, especially here in L.A.

There is not much to say, but we did feel as if we should express our sorrow, and pay our condolences to both Travis and Adam and their loved ones as they endure this horrific turn of events.  As stunned as I was to hear about this tragedy, I knew that both Adam and Travis had to have survived, considering the types of people they are, both fighters, who have surmounted so many obstacles in their lives to get to where they’re at today.  So, once more, they shall overcome.

And to Lil Chris and the rest of the fallen, may angels lead you in.

on behalf of the hundreds, bobby
